Sandra Lee is a real Beeach.....we've tried to use her as a spokesperson, and finally had to walk away...
this was several years ago

I've posted this many times but it never gets old to me. Haha. Anthony Bourdain had this to say about it....

"The most terrifying thing I've seen is her making a Kwanzaa cake. Watch that clip and tell me your eyeballs don't burst into flames. It's a war crime on television. You'll scream."

Kwanzaa Cake—a pastry that consists of a supermarket angel food bundt cake (for that stale, grocery-store-air flavor), generic icing in a can, cinnamon, an entire can of apple pie filling dumped unceremoniously in the center, and garnished with pumpkin seeds and corn nuts?

Behr, I'm planning my Super Bowl meal. Being the resident gourmand, maybe you can help me. How large should the onion pieces be for my chili dogs???

flying low key this year, in case I gotta make an unexpected run to the baby hospital

Hows it going 3?

Are you serious? Haha, personal taste. I like them small like the size of an Advil pill.

Can't complain, just trying to get some things together for tomorrow. I have about 15 friends and neighbors getting together for the SB and they all are going to bring something and I'm trying to coordinate it all. We want to set it up outside like last year, but it's supposed to rain all day.

Do have any plans, other than chili dogs?

I have plenty of spaghetti sauce. I need a simple pizza sauce I can throw together, preferably without anything from a jar/can.

Red sauce is my specialty. But, I can't help you "throw it together" :p

It will take no less than 4 hours (most of which is simmering).

Go ahead! I don't have that much time tomorrow, so I'll do something different. But I'd love a good sauce for when tomatoes come in.

For tomorrow.

Use a can of crushed tomatoes and a can of tomato paste. Mix it really well in a stock pot. Add about a tbsp of olive oil. Let it simmer for about ten minutes. Add a clove of fresh garlic (chopped), about a tsp of fresh chopped Oregano, a tsp of fresh chopped basil and a tsp of fresh chopped parsley. Let that simmer for about 20 minutes and taste it. The oil and the herbs will neutralize the acidity of the tomatoes, if you have too much of any of those, you can add a little red wine vinegar to bring the acidity back up.

Once you have it the thickness you want and the flavor is there, add about a 1/2 tsp of onion powder and 1/2 tsp garlic powder, 1 tsp of sugar and sea salt and cracked pepper to taste.

Simmer for at least an hour, longer the better tho.

It's a good sauce. It's basically :)the same I use with fresh tomatoes. Instead of the canned crushed and paste, I use nice Roma tomatoes, cut them in half, roast then in the oven (if I have time I'll roast them on the grill, then put them in a blender. Truly amazing!
