Good way to do it anymore is to just Google the recipe and follow it. Read the comments and determine what you might want to change. There are a few good sites out there.i am not much of a cook nor is my wife ... all though she is getting much better every year
i see all these great dishes and wish i knew how to make them
she's getting better.
she's never liked american food until about 3 years ago and suddenly here taste buds changed.
now she is trying to learn how to cook it.
she likes southern food. fried green tomatoes, fritters, catfish, etc.
She was born in the Phillipines(sic) I have never been there myself.
She moved her when she was 19 when he sister became a citizen.
I met her when she was 21 in Ohio.
She can't cook her native food at all ... much better at American honestly.
Nothing wrong with good american food. I really like original dishes from other countries. Try this link for some ideas.

has some good stuff. Cooking and enjoying what you cook is an experiment. You take a basic recipe and change it up a little based on your taste and preferences.
You know Sly, I don't usually say this "out loud" from fear that someone will misunderstand, but it's kinda like a doctor (obviously on a whole different level), but us cooks or chefs or whatever are constantly practicing.
We never know it all, and are always trying to learn and improve.
At least I am.
I had a nice bleu cheese brie on a cracker with an apple slice that was quite pleasing to the palate. RV would suggest a type of crab dip for an appetizer. As for a dessert, remember that chocolate truffle cake topped with strawberries and white chocolate drizzle RV made that was real moist and creamy? I think you saw the pic. Salad- I prefer Caesar with spiced croutons. Soup... maybe a spicy lobster bisque. I would like to see a nice pork tenderloin covered with a nice glaze of some sort. Maybe honey or garlic/onion.
hope this gives you some ideas.
Here's my .02. If it's all day, I don't want to be full and miserable so I'd want something light but satisfying. Also, if I'm dressed for a Christmas party I'd rather not have to deal with messy food (not an issue for some people I realize, lol).
I'd want something like a veggie spread on toast or crackers, maybe cucumber/dill creamy something, with sliced cherry tomatoes. And maybe something spicy to go with it.
For the salad, tomato and fresh mozzarella. Simple but delish. For dinner, turkey, served with roasted potatoes, broccoli with lemon butter sauce, orange cranberry relish, and yeast rolls.
Dessert, Italian creme cake.
Now I'm hungry.
