I have never used a smoker.

this could be cool.

i like jerky

you guys make it sound like i can do jerky with this too

You can make jerky in a dehydrator overnight. That's what I do. Dehydrator I bought was around $30-$40.

i am not much of a cook nor is my wife ... all though she is getting much better every year

i see all these great dishes and wish i knew how to make them

Good way to do it anymore is to just Google the recipe and follow it. Read the comments and determine what you might want to change. There are a few good sites out there.

Your wife, is she the Asian that tries to cook but , well just can't?

yeah but between volnation and porn i just don't have any internet time left over.

*if you're reading this honey while I'm asleep I'm just kidding*

she's getting better.

she's never liked american food until about 3 years ago and suddenly here taste buds changed.

now she is trying to learn how to cook it.

she likes southern food. fried green tomatoes, fritters, catfish, etc.

seriously don't know a guy who is married or dating an asian girl who isnt.

honestly.

Nothing wrong with those. Where is she from Neo, I forgot? There's some great Asian dishes and it would be a great duo treat if she learns how to prepare those, as well.

Maybe you should get out more and meet some new people?

Just joking. Kinda. :)

She was born in the Phillipines(sic) I have never been there myself.

She moved her when she was 19 when he sister became a citizen.

I met her when she was 21 in Ohio.

She can't cook her native food at all ... much better at American honestly.

Nothing wrong with good american food. I really like original dishes from other countries. Try this link for some ideas.

has some good stuff. Cooking and enjoying what you cook is an experiment. You take a basic recipe and change it up a little based on your taste and preferences.

You know Sly, I don't usually say this "out loud" from fear that someone will misunderstand, but it's kinda like a doctor (obviously on a whole different level), but us cooks or chefs or whatever are constantly practicing.

We never know it all, and are always trying to learn and improve.

At least I am.

I know. That's the experiment part. Good to have a starting base but that's all it is. It's full on experimentation from that point until you get it how you like it.

Never forget the Main ingredient in any and every dish..........

I didn't want to bore the Random Thought thread or start another thread about food so, I thought I would just use this one.

I've been asked to prepare a Christmas Dinner for 15-20 people Christmas day. Complete with hor'dourves, salad, dinner and dessert.

I've been talking and emailing back and forth with the lady that is hosting this dinner and she doesn't have any idea on what she wants. Everything I suggest sounds "wonderful" to her.

I'm sure she will be happy with whatever, but I thought I might ask you guys/gals, what you like to see when attending a Christmas dinner (this is an all day affair) or party.

What kind of hor'dourves...mostly "finger food" type? Salad - simple? Traditional dinner? Cookies, cake, pie for dessert?

Thanks for any input.

I had a nice bleu cheese brie on a cracker with an apple slice that was quite pleasing to the palate. RV would suggest a type of crab dip for an appetizer. As for a dessert, remember that chocolate truffle cake topped with strawberries and white chocolate drizzle RV made that was real moist and creamy? I think you saw the pic. Salad- I prefer Caesar with spiced croutons. Soup... maybe a spicy lobster bisque. I would like to see a nice pork tenderloin covered with a nice glaze of some sort. Maybe honey or garlic/onion.
hope this gives you some ideas.

That just does not match your picture at all. :eek:lol:

Behr, this may be too simple and redneck but I thought of another finger food. We call them "weinies in bikinis". RV takes apart cresent roll dough and wraps the little smoked sausages and serves with spicy brown mustard. I know they are called pigs in a blanket but I like my name better. These are always the first to disappear. I'm sure you could unredneck them somehow and add a touch of Behr-flair. Good luck my friend. Let me know what menu you decide upon so I can be jelli. (RV wants to know as well).

Here's my .02. If it's all day, I don't want to be full and miserable so I'd want something light but satisfying. Also, if I'm dressed for a Christmas party I'd rather not have to deal with messy food (not an issue for some people I realize, lol).

I'd want something like a veggie spread on toast or crackers, maybe cucumber/dill creamy something, with sliced cherry tomatoes. And maybe something spicy to go with it.

For the salad, tomato and fresh mozzarella. Simple but delish.

For dinner, turkey, served with roasted potatoes, broccoli with lemon butter sauce, orange cranberry relish, and yeast rolls.

Dessert, Italian creme cake.

Now I'm hungry.
