I have always believed crowd noise hinders an offense: 1)burn time outs 2) difficult to check off. I also believe it's get the defense fired up and gets adrenaline flowing, to make a big play (example 2003 Bama in overtime, the Vol fans we out numbered and then we got loud, it started with one fan going nuts and then it spread to the corner where most of the Vol fans were. The whole stadium noticed, the players on the field, felt the electricity, the VOLUNTEERS made the play, and we won the game). That Saturday night in Tuscaloosa, I knew one person can make a difference.

The team feeds of the crowd and if the other team is on offense the louder the better, the crowd noise affects the Offense, more than the Defense.

Crowd noise is not UT's calling card. LSU? Yes, UT? No.

Yes and no to this.

UT isn't known for being wild and crazy 100% of the time. But, I don't think there's many places that can match up with UT's momentum shifting crowd noise when the fans get into it. I've been at games where it felt the crowd determined the outcome.

Tennessee may not be known for crowd noise nowadays but it could be. I agree with Face where I have been at games that I feel crowd noise was a contributing factor to the win. I think the Vol faithful got a bit too satisfied after all the success that started to build in the late 1980's and culminated in the National Championship in 1998. The uscjr and uga games of recent years started to sound like the UT of old -- Florida 2004 and Cal 2006 -- and the TaxSlayer Bowl was good given for not being at Neyland. I am expecting lots of VOLume for Oklahoma.

I was 20 and at the game with a good friend and my parents. After the game (and after we rammer jammered the bammers of course) when the Vol fans were all walking out of the stadium together my friend and I started singing rocky top at the top of our lungs. Within seconds, the entire crowd was singing it as we walked out of the stadium. AMAZING

I'm giving my all by spending money I don't have to go to an NFL stadium in a city I don't really like to support my guys in their first game. I literally cannot wait another week to see them play in Neyland.

The theme lately has been a desire to change for the sake of change. It would be nice to change something that would actually be helpful. Good post.

I don't understand why some people even come to the game. ive had people turn and glare at me for yelling and screaming at the top of my lungs. not cussing just yelling and trying to get other people to get loud.

youre at a football game not a play.

I remember being a student at the 98 Florida game. The crowd was loud, and then their qb tried to call an audible. The crowd went next level, and florida wasted a time out. It felt super cool, because we as fans made an impact. It will be this way again soon.

I will bring my kids when I can, and I will be loud enough for all of us. Too many times I have see grown ups acting like they don't know how or when or what to cheer, my kids will know how to cheer for the VOLS.

Neyland is louder actually.... When LSU is down it gets quiet too. I was at the Cincinnati game in 2011 or 2012, there were four cincy fans behind me. They apparently travelled to a lot of stadiums and said "yeah this place is the loudest, LSU was loud but I think this is the loudest." They all agreed, and that was during the down Dooley years.
