Let me tell you something...I want Fulmer to step down as much as anybody, in fact I saw the writing on the wall in 2001...yeah, the chinks in the armor were showing even then...and Fulmer still continued down the path of where we are now. To some maybe he's getting what he deserved based on alot of misinformation on what went down with Majors.
But it's like this...Majors came back to early...he needs to admit that instead of always dodging that issue. When he did come back, UT football had changed drastically...things were exciting and in a big way. Majors dropped 3 crucial games in the process of losing the confidence of the team, staff, fans and administration. Tack on the fact that Johnny had an ego waaaaaaaaaaaaaay beyond even Fulmers today, the fact that schools were openly courting Fulmer and the fact that Doug Dickey had a bigger ego than Johnny...well there you have it. Majors out/Fulmer in. And lets face it, Fulmer pretty much said him or me.
And folks, for a decade it was the best thing for UT football ever...end of story! Again I have been beyond ready for Phil to leave but make no mistake about this...he's run for the most part a clean program, won an NC, dominated Alabama, at times dominated the SEC, won SEC titles and for most of his tenure kept us in elite status. Regardless of recent stats...his reign far outweighs Majors.
And to those that love Majors...thank your lucky stars that we never got hit by the NCAA because this program was wide open when he was in control. I still shake my head in amazement of watching T-Rob pull up beside me on the strip driving a freaking Porsche.
No, I want wax eloquent about the days of Majors...his arrogance almost killed this program...sure the Sugar Vols were great but i wouldn't trade that team or year for any of the Manning years, the Tee years, the Clausen years...well maybe one...hehe.
It's good that Majors is back in K-town...and yeah he needs to be recognized but Majors was always more popular with the media than his actual accomplishments ever were. And his biggest accomplishments weren't here, they were at Pitt.
