Let me tell you something...I want Fulmer to step down as much as anybody, in fact I saw the writing on the wall in 2001...yeah, the chinks in the armor were showing even then...and Fulmer still continued down the path of where we are now. To some maybe he's getting what he deserved based on alot of misinformation on what went down with Majors.

But it's like this...Majors came back to early...he needs to admit that instead of always dodging that issue. When he did come back, UT football had changed drastically...things were exciting and in a big way. Majors dropped 3 crucial games in the process of losing the confidence of the team, staff, fans and administration. Tack on the fact that Johnny had an ego waaaaaaaaaaaaaay beyond even Fulmers today, the fact that schools were openly courting Fulmer and the fact that Doug Dickey had a bigger ego than Johnny...well there you have it. Majors out/Fulmer in. And lets face it, Fulmer pretty much said him or me.

And folks, for a decade it was the best thing for UT football ever...end of story! Again I have been beyond ready for Phil to leave but make no mistake about this...he's run for the most part a clean program, won an NC, dominated Alabama, at times dominated the SEC, won SEC titles and for most of his tenure kept us in elite status. Regardless of recent stats...his reign far outweighs Majors.

And to those that love Majors...thank your lucky stars that we never got hit by the NCAA because this program was wide open when he was in control. I still shake my head in amazement of watching T-Rob pull up beside me on the strip driving a freaking Porsche.

No, I want wax eloquent about the days of Majors...his arrogance almost killed this program...sure the Sugar Vols were great but i wouldn't trade that team or year for any of the Manning years, the Tee years, the Clausen years...well maybe one...hehe.

It's good that Majors is back in K-town...and yeah he needs to be recognized but Majors was always more popular with the media than his actual accomplishments ever were. And his biggest accomplishments weren't here, they were at Pitt.

I do recall T-Rob having credit cards of a certain booster when he got busted.

He probably believes it slightly . . . but it makes it appear as though Johnny hasn't seen a Florida game in the past 15 years.

Well the defense showed up on saturday and kept TN in the ball game. So I can agree with the quote.

Its just obvious that Majors has waited this long for Fulmer to Finally really mess up and Majors is taking every chance he gets to talk about it. But when he was there people were saying the same thing about him. Majors is a fool, the man should be in a retirement home.

Majors hasn't changed a bit...he's just older now. He's still got an ego the size of Texas, throw in the bitterness that continues to grow and the fact the now he can finally say i told you so. Whatever, guys a nutt job always has been.

As for Chavis...has there ever been an DC look as brilliant as he does on 1st and 2nd down and yet continually give up 3rd down when the game is on the line. It's ALWAYS been that way with him. Fulmer gone = Chavis gone...good enough for me.

Majors on Fulmer: Chavis has saved his job for 10 years :

If anyone saved Fulmer's job in 2007, it was Cutcliff and not Chavis.

Excerpt from a Gary Lundy article:

"The thing that will always stand out to me about John is the Majors family and how close they have always been to each other," said Jaynes, former University of Pittsburgh athletic director who hired Majors in December 1992 for a second tour of duty as the Panthers' head football coach.

"His mother would talk to John matter-of-factly as if he could hear from up there in the box. She was his biggest fan, but when a play didn't work she'd sometimes jump up and say, 'John, you know better than that!' I finally told her, 'Mrs. Majors, we need to get you some headphones so you can talk to John down on the sidelines.' "

Former Michigan State coach Duffy Daugherty once introduced John Terrill Majors as "the only coach in the country with a father named Shirley and a mother named John."

Even though everybody knew John's mother as Elizabeth, her full name was John Elizabeth Bobo Majors. Her father and grandfather were also named John.

Who can forget Mrs. Majors' quote after her son's fumble set up Baylor's last touchdown in UT's 13-7 loss in the Sugar Bowl at the end of the 1956 season?

"Well, everybody burns the biscuits occasionally,"
she said.

A few more football quotes:

"If lessons were learned in defeat, our team is getting a great education." -Murray Warmath

"We didn't tackle well today, but we made up for it by not blocking." -John McKay

"I could have been a Rhodes Scholar, except for my grades." -Duffy Daugherty

"I've found prayers work best when you have big players." -Knute Rockne (screw Bon Jovi)

"Hawaii doesn't win many games in the United States." -Lee Corso

Chavis has always put quality teams on the field IMO. There's nothing wrong with UT's defense right now and we have a sub-par front 7 (minus Rico). Hell, our defense is the only reason we might win any more games this year. Chief is more than alright with me. He needs to recruit more, but he's a helluva coach.

The only reason the defense showed up Saturday is because we were trailing. If Tennessee was up by 2, instead of trailing by 2, we would have seen the "ignominious" Mustang package and Auburn would have drove right down the field and still would have won the game. Then there would be topics everywhere on Chavis and his stupid Schemes.

As bad as Auburn looked throwing the ball, there's absolutely no chance that we would have started putting extra DB's on the field.

Im not sure Auburn's inability to move the ball can be credited solely to our defense. they were pretty inept all by themselves.

That's really my point. We weren't about to change things up and put in the Mustang group when Auburn was going nowhere offense in the first place.

good to see Johnny take the high road

meh. i'm not saying i agree with the things he says or the way he approaches it either, but you have to expect that when he's asked about that year every time he shows his head around Knoxville.

it's like being in a nasty divorce. you get over it, but you never forget it. imagine then, being hounded about it by people (in this case the media) every time you speak.

I see your point.

However, UCLA was pretty awful on offense themselves, UNTIL the Mustang arrived
