i understood that coker had some minor academic problems that limited his play in the 1st half, but don't know after that why he didn't play more, other than i've heard he's still so young he struggles w/ pass blocking, which we obviously needed today. roper gets 'em ready, but I'm not sure he sends 'em in does he? wouldn't that be fulmer and cut's call?
From what I understand is that Roper is considered one of the best young coaches in the nation. Hes done a pretty good job this year with the backs but two words....High and Tight

i agree with that statement. to be clear and i don't think you misunderstood me, I don't have any problems w/ roper... yet. Our biggest problem was O-line. supposedly fulmer's bread and butter. heck we even have a two coaches that work on the O-line. there's problems everywhere you look on this team. Stewart looked dreadful covering receivers today, foster fumbled, that ugly ugly half hand off, half pitch on the end around play, ainge's interception (he had a good game, but boy he got baited on that play), hardesty to open the game, giving up so big pass plays, lack of consistency on the offense. it can go everywhere today. that ultimately leads to one person. he's been known to go by the name "the great pumpkin", Phil, O2's mancrush, or simply Phil Fulmer.

 I know and they had over a month to get ready for this game

Not only did Foster fumble in the 4th, but his awful awful terrible "pitch" on the reverse was cause for 3 more PSU points.

Coker doesn't need to be a between the tackle guy, Hardesty will be just fine there.

Foster is a 3rd string back on this team. He's slow, runs high, fundamentally he needs to get his pads down and get north & south quickly to be effective. He has decent hands, probably better used as a third down back @ best. There were better personnel options, Coker for one.

yeah- very disappointing performance for Foster. But if a kid isn't playing well, sit him down! I agree with everyone else in that Coker should have been in.

Ultimately, this one is on the coaching.

Foster was running great except for the fumble, averaging over six yards per carry. The coaching staff needs to work with him protecting the ball (he also cost a game against South Carolina last year).

I feel for the young man and he's only a soph. He plays very hard, unlike some of the guys on defense, tackling like it was flag football (won't mention any names but you can watch the replay).:banghead2:

He is lazy and lackadasical with the ball. He had 2 fumbles today - the reverse to Swain was all his fault. He got the hand off from Ainge fine and then haphazardly flipped it to Swain. That play would have gone big.

Then he fumbles in a critical moment. He did have some good runs - but all year he has been an East West runner.

Instead of calling for Fulmer - let's hang Foster out to dry!

He is also arrogant - my kids and I met him after practice and my kids asked for an autograph - he didn't even say a word to them. He thinks he is so good - yeah right.

Anyone else have visions of Corey Anderson coughing it up in scoring position against a certain coach less rival?

For all of you that MUST blame someone for the Vols loss, blame a stifling PSU D and a PSU quarterback that came to play ball. We were not out coached, just out played. Blaming and calling for Fulmer to be fired is beyond retarded - it's bammeresque.

What I'm sick of is the Vols not getting up for games that are not vs. the SEC big 4.

Well said - I just had to get that off my chest. I have not been a Foster fan all year - and he solidified my feelings for him today. It stinks getting beat - especially against PSU!

Nothing went our way today - that's for sure.:cray:

FYI for those who don't know, but Arian's Mom posts on this site. Not saying it has become too critical. But before you blast someone. Make sure you think beforehand. We all love our Vols in the end.

I can't remember a season where there were so high expectations of a player and fell this short. Then again I am still hungover at 2 am on Tuesday morning so thereare cobwebs all in my head.

Foster needs to be the fullback next year (If he can swallow his pride and learn the posistion). Coker needs to get 25-30 rushes a game. The kid has a knack for breaking the big one. The Coker/ Foster combo (again if Foster chose to accept) reminds me alot of the Henry/ Bryson combo from 98.

Not understanding that Fulmer is the motivator of the team is retarded. And yes, we were soundly outcoached by Penn State. Also, Penn State's QB, Morelli, is terrible. We helped him look like John Elway.

It wasn't Foster's fault that the coaches wouldn't put Lamarcus in the game. Also, you'd think that with Coker out of practice the coaches would have tons of time to work Hardesty and Foster. I didn't see any of the problems that plagued these two all year look like they'd been addressed. If someone just teaches Foster how to hold the ball, he'll be fine. Hardesty needs help with his field vision. It doesn't look like our coaches have made any attempt to provide this instruction for either back.

the fumbles are what will be remembered....the last one was a really good defensive play...more than anything. the first one was just a bad play on his part.

but otherwise, AF ran well during the game. and while the points can be traced back to his mistakes, that's not the only thing that cost us yesterday. there was a whole host of poor play spread across both the offense and defense.
