Are you getting more optimistic or pessimistic about the upcoming season?

I saw this topic on another site and to be honest I am trending downward. I dont know if its the QB recruiting or the injuries, but I am really starting to feel crappy about the upcoming season. I will admit that I get a little down when I see Bama, UGA, & UF reel in big name after big name and we make headlines for all the wrong reason. I felt like we would win the games we are supposed to and pop at least one, possibly two upsets this year. Now Im not so sure. What say you?

I was extremely optomistic back during Spring practice. Now, though, I've climbed down the mountain a little bit. I wouldn't say I've gotten more pessimistic, maybe just more realistic.

We have 2 QBs that were complete crap last year, lost 3 experienced WRs to injury, a thin O-line, trouble recruiting a QB, and a team that has a tradition of giving up when down by 10 points or more

The positive in that mess is that we have a new coaching staff that has (hopefully) changed the attitude of this team.

Let see...I've been complaining about the same old, same old on the sidelines and on the field for at least four years now. I'd say that I'm simply excited about the "newness" on Saturdays. This team has nowhere to go but up.

I'm looking forward to weekly improvement instead of digression.

I am still optimistic about the season. IMHO, a trained chimp could have coached this talent to seven wins last year. CLK, regardless of what some may think of him, is considerably more intelligent than a trained chimp, as are the other coaches currently on staff.

The D will be nasty. End of commentary re: defense.

Crompton seems more comfortable in the offense, so though our best WR talent is considerably banged-up, I am relatively confident that Quinton Hancock, Hardesty, and the new incoming talent can provide him with sufficient targets. A confident, competent, pedestrian QB can cure ALOT of talent issues among RB's and WR's. See generally Erik Ainge, 2007.

My only real concern is whether the O-Line can keep Cromp on his feet long enough to deliver the ball in an intelligent fashion.

I'm sticking with my original over/under of 8 wins. Any less than 7 and CLK's hire looks somewhat disastrous. Losses to Bama, UF, Ole Miss, and prolly UGA (though I think this is our best chance for an upset because, hey, it's UGA. See generally Eric Zeier, Garrison Hearst, Robert Edwards, Quincy Carter, Heinz Ward, and Joe Tereshinski)

Same as you. Particularly anxious about the Florida game, and the possibility of what an embarrasing beat-down might do to the fragile psyche of this team. Any way you slice it, a 6-6 type season is reality for 2009 UT. An upset or two might be in the making over UGA at home, but it is also a general rule that you'll lose 1 or 2 that you shouldn't in year 1 of a transition.

Podnah, are you serious? Getting down about recruiting? That's the one of the main things that we can check off that we know for sure this staff can do (see last February).

And we can feel bad for the injured kids, but that does mean its an opportunity for somebody else.

Its like about 20 days 'til they hit the field, and I'm revved up. :good!:

When JS comits, yes I said he will commit and you can blast me all you want, Rex will no longer be worried about the future!

Unfortunately, I haven't been overly optimistic to begin with. We still have unproven QB issues, although I think it will be better than last year. While I am enthused about the freshmen, we have to remember they are freshmen and it is a big jump from high school to SEC footbal--add to that the significant change of leaving home and I think we need to be realistic as to what the freshman will do. Don't get me wrong, I expect to see some of them play a significant role but they can't carry the team.

Earlier, I was hoping to see an 8 win season but I now am predicting

WKU W (in a thrashing)
UCLA W (closer than we'd like)
Fla L (by at least 2 TDs and likely more)
Ohio W
Auburn W (in a low scoring sqeaker)
Georgia L (in another squeaker)
Bama L (by at least 10 and I hate that)
SC W (ugly win)
Miss L
Vandy W
Ky W

7-5

I was extremely optimistic until some of our receivers have gotten hurt. It's not like we're loaded with 4-5 star receivers anyway. But I am still more excited then most years.

 I haven't been this excited since the clawfense took the field :eek:lol:

I like your predictions but I think an upset of UGA or Bama is going to happen IMO. UGA does not have the studs it use to and bama is breaking in a young rookie.

I predit Ole Miss will be a bust. I'm not a Nutt believer.

I never hoped for/expect much more than 7-8 wins this year. What I am excited about is seeing a more disciplined and higher energy team out there this year. I'm excited to see if these O coaches can make anything more of this offense then last year. I'm excited to see if the combination of new S&C and zone scheme can help our Oline block better in the run game. I'm looking forward to watching EB rock some WRs worlds.

Other than that I'm realistic that this is a fairly big rebuilding challenge that will take at least three years to see if this program and this staff is going to get it off the mat.

I'm taking a wait and see approach. I just want to see them compete against the better teams. We really haven't done that in awhile.

how can you not be optimistic? Yes everyone wants to see improvement but do you really think it's not going to happen? For me, the only was I would be pessimistic would be if I didn't think this staff could get it done (and I do not).

We got what we wanted folks so let's enjoy it

this. as long as they show signs of improvement and play with heart I will be happy, my gut is if they do these things they can pull 8 wins easy.

UGA has a bunch of linemen that were injured last year that will return, if cox is at least servicable they will do well.

Bama and Ole Miss are poised for a back slide.

Optimistic comparing last season to this new one.

Pessimistic comparing coming into the season, compared to coming into spring practice. Only because of injuries though.

Very optimistic with the direction the team is going, and the fire and heart CLK has brought to this program. Our culture needed a fire lit under its ass, and CLK brought a nuke.

I think you have to lean more towards being optimistic when your program gets a complete overhaul. Believe me, I've been through more of them than most of you.
