Are We One Year Behind Ole Miss?

Please explain. Hugh Freeze took over a 2-10 team, with much poorer facilities and a much smaller budget than what Butch Jones inherited.

I primarily meant the roster. No argument on facilities. And we all know UTs budget situation. Also consider the APR situation and other acedemic matters that were cramping the program at the time.

Wait and see. Do you really think Ole Miss is a destination job? I don't care if his name is Hugh Jefferson Davis Freeze. It's Ole Miss.
Athlon Sports rates Ole Miss as the 30th best college coaching job in football, with the state having the most D1 prospects per capita in the country. There is a lot of competition for those players from surrounding states of course. For a Mississippi boy, I think that could be a destination job, yes.

For your info, U.T. is rated 16th best coaching job, but only 7th best in the SEC.

Rewatched the Ole Miss dismantling of Candy again last night. I know they had a great class two years ago. Could we be where they are this year (top 20 team) next year or are they they much more talented?

Bro, its vandy. Nothing to be impressed about. The freakin Temple Owls bent them over.

I'm sure you think College football begins and ends with UT but "back in the day" Ole Miss was a power-house.

From 1951-1970 (20 seasons) UT's record was 139-63-10 while Ole Miss' record was 159-45-11.

Well, by my count Tennessee won 150 games from 1950-1970 (20 seasons). Ole Miss won 163. While I stand corrected for that 20 year period, it doesn't change the fact that Tennessee has DOMINATED Ole Miss 43-18-1.

In fact, during this time period Tennessee won 3 of our 6 National Championships (50, 51, 67). Ole Miss won their only 3 EVER (59,60,62). The glory days have long since left the Old Miss program. The last time they were ranked #1 was 1964..which is pathetic.

Tennessee is the 10th winningest program in college football history (taking into account Penn State's vacated wins). Ole Miss is 51st right behind juggernauts Wabash and Dayton and a few spots above Williams and Northern Iowa. Historically, the two are night and day. I could go on with bowl appearances, bowl wins, conference titles.

Tennessee historically has been the 2cnd best team in the SEC. We have the second most SEC championships. Ole Miss has the 7th most out of a conference that had 10 members for a significant period of time. That clearly puts Tennessee "near the top" historically and Ole Miss scraping the bottom, historically.

It's not close, even "back in the day."

Interesting. How many 4 star recruits were on the roster Freeze inherited? I would be surprised if it were more than on the roster Jones inherited.

And I think most coaches would rather take on a team with some APR issues, if it meant they got top level facilities and a much bigger recruiting budget, as well as a much bigger budget to hire assistants, trainers, etc. all advantages Jones enjoyed over Freeze when hired.

You are the only one making this into a Tennessee/Ole Miss comparison. That would be a stupid argument for anyone to side with Ole Miss over 100 years, or even the last 40.

All I said was that Tenn was only at the top for 15-20 years out of the last 40 , and gave stats to back it up. If 5, 6, or 7 wins is considered at the top for you, then we have been there many more times.

I also gave stats to back up the fact that Ole Miss has been able to stay at the top for more than 2 or 3 years (like you said) during the 1950's and 60's. Someone else shot down your uninformed statement that Ole Miss never had a 20 year time period when they had a better record than Tennessee.

Is Ole Miss better than U.T. in 2014? I don't know the answer, but we will at the end of this year, and after playing them. Will either get back to the top? I really don't have a clue.

You probably don't remember Colorado, SMU, and Army being at the top either. Now they would struggle with Vanderbilt. I hope that U.T. makes it back, and that Ole Miss does too. I hate for a fan base to taste success, and then watch it disappear, like it has around here.

Yes, it is a stupid argument. Tennessee has done more in the last 50 years than Ole Miss has done in its entire history. Ole Miss is a SEC doormat.

No. Ole Miss has a much better OL now than we will have next year and QB will be a major question mark.
