Cause I haven't seen any other team have as much portal drama as us. Can we not pay to keep our team together like other programs cause it seems like everyone of our players has either threatened to enter the portal or did enter the portal. And before yall say everyone is going through this, they're not. We have been involved in far more portal drama than everyone else. I supported not paying Nico but at some point you gotta try to keep your team together. It seems as though Huepel and higher ups have conceded this upcoming season given the fact we're going in with a team that's a shell of what it was last year.

The only way I'm giving Huepel a pass for this year is if we land a top 5 recruiting class with all the funds we've presumably saved from not paying guys what other teams in the portal were willing to pay. However, if we land another mediocre 10-15 recruiting classes paired with losing so many contributing players to the portal I have to assume we are a broke program that can't compete in this new money driven era of college football.

What is the shell you speak of? Seems like more have been kept, despite Nico leaving than those that have been told or are looking to move on.

Thank you for another (not) entertaining but thoroughly idiotic take. Not quite on the level of Dobbs taking Big Ben's job... but close.

Good grief. TN appears on none of the 5 lists I looked at as big losers for the spring or winter portal, with lists from about 8-14 teams.

Take a breath and worry about something more pressing. Perhaps a build-up of belly-button lint, or something.

The players that left, including Nico, all wanted significant bumps in NIL. The staff worked hard in December giving bumps to the players they felt were worth it. They let the ones they didn’t feel were worth bumps go. Money is not an issue. But this staff is not going to overpay players to retain them or bring players in that they don’t believe provide the value.

Now everyone is going to come up with their own narrative as to the issues and broke is the easy narrative to play.

They reviewed film on almost every WR that has hit the portal this spring and didn’t see one as good as the 7 on our roster. Those they did speak with wanted starting money but were not good enough. So we passed.

Nobody cares about hat you think of Heupel. He gets a 100% pass for this season. If you can’t understand that then that’s on you. Please tell us how realistically we can sign a top 5 class. I mean realistically. Not some mythological scenario in which we have Scrooge McDuck just throwing millions around.

We just lost Jakobe Thomas who played a ton last year and was set to start. We lost Jayson Jenkins and Squirrel White (two major contributors last year) to Florida State. Obviously we lost our starting QB. Then there's the injury to our best CB without an obvious replacement. And not to mention all the depth that left. Depth guys leaving is acceptable but losing at least 3 potential starters without reasonable replacements makes us a shell of what we could've been.

So is this fiscal responsibility gonna be utilized in other ways (i.e. recruiting) or are we a poverty program that will always be bargain shopping?

Honestly I am surprised that we didn't lose any key offensive players. All of our main losses have been on the defensive side.

But OP does have a point. We have lost 37 players from our roster last year and have only added 30 players. We seem to have lost more players than we have gained and are taking a huge net loss in the transfer portal. Heck, we just lost 6 players in the Spring transfer portal and added one. It seems like we are a step behind and are being caught off guard at that last moment.

Contact spyre and tell them how upset you are with all the money you are donating and not paying the players you want them to. I'm assuming if it bothers you that much, you must be a big contributor and should have some say. If you aren't, then you might have too much concern with how other peoples money gets spent. I acknowledge that I don't donate and I never will. I just disagree with paying players completely. I know that probably isn't a popular take, but it is mine.

there are several reasons (Which I've seen you enough to believe you understand them) on how and why you shop.

1. The skills and abilities of your roster dictate what your needs are in recruiting.
2. You recruit to those needs for the roster but fiscally responsible.
3. If they had needs that required additional funding that is available.
4. They won't pay more for a backup player than they are paying players that start.
5. They will pay players what they feel they are worth.

I've seen references to the "money they have saved with Nico leaving" to be used to bring in players. The collective is like you or I. We receive income monthly, weekly or bi-weekly. We pay down our expenses when we get our income each pay period. The collective works the same way.

They didn't get 8 million dollars to stick in the bank or invest when Nico signed or do they for any player. They collect money as needed monthly to pay players for their NIL based agreements with the players and donors to the collective. Big donors cover the most expensive NIL agreements but they are not giving up those funds on the front end. They didn't get rich spending foolishly.

We are not a poverty program. We build the roster based on needs.

Yes let's all just sit in a corner and shut up. After all, this isn't a discussion forum where we can express opinions and air grievances. You sir, are ridiculous to suggest that if we aren't big donors to Spyre, we shouldn't be able to express dissatisfaction with how our NIL program is being managed!

Tenn doesn't have the same deep pockets as the top schools, so there's only so much you can put on the coach. A legitimate question would be, is Tenn only a 10-11 win school for at least the near future? If that's the case, you'd be a fool to fire Heupel.

Your posts are sometimes odd, but this one is further out there. I do not care what the recruiting class rating looks like as long as we meet or exceed the expectations. We did something that only TWELVE out of 133 teams accomplished. WE were in the playoffs. This type of discussion is the EXACT reason I detest NIL as it currently exists.

As fans all we can do is trust in the staff. And until we start seeing the underutilized Kamara/Jones-Bradshaw/Peterson type players excel with other teams or coaching staffs, no reason not to trust their judgment.GBO!!

Read LWSVOL's posts above yours. He clearly states NIL $ are not an issue with TN. They spend as needed.

As for players leaving, happens with every team just no one pays attention to other teams. I get that but when you live in other states with SEC programs you hear a lot about it.
