Are we broke or just reactionary?

Yes let's all just sit in a corner and shut up. After all, this isn't a discussion forum where we can express opinions and air grievances. You sir, are ridiculous to suggest that if we aren't big donors to Spyre, we shouldn't be able to express dissatisfaction with how our NIL program is being managed!
You can express it all you want, but it's just howling at the moon. I guess I'm ridiculous for thinking you shouldn't have say in how others spend their money? I believe it's ridiculous to assume it is our NIL program if we aren't contributing. It isn't our bank account that I am going out to dinner with tonight. If you want to discuss what the university is doing with tax money, I can get behind that. NIL is not public funds. The good news is this is a forum and we can disagree and go back to our day without anything we typed really mattering in the grand scheme of things.

ok. Its the football staff that doesn't believe anyone is better for the money they are asking. Not just a talent assessment but financial / talent assessment.

and they are looking at spring portal players, not winter.

just for clarification.
The football staff is either ignorant or in full spin mode if they are saying that. Either that, or they value wide receivers way too lowly.

No you don’t know that for a fact. You believe you do. But stop living in a fantasy land where you know what you are talking about. Because you are exactly like 99.99% of us here on VN. We don’t truly have a clue. All we do is speculate.

None of us are coaches and are qualified to make such statements as fact.
Common sense tells you that out of all the players who entered the portal this offseason, there was more than one who was any better than the returning players and freshmen we brought in. I am willing to believe you that 99.9% of Vol Nation posters don’t have that common sense I mentioned, but I assure you that we don’t have 7 All SEC guys at receiver right now, which would have to be the case to say that there were no upgrades to be had in the portal.

Cause I haven't seen any other team have as much portal drama as us. Can we not pay to keep our team together like other programs cause it seems like everyone of our players has either threatened to enter the portal or did enter the portal. And before yall say everyone is going through this, they're not. We have been involved in far more portal drama than everyone else. I supported not paying Nico but at some point you gotta try to keep your team together. It seems as though Huepel and higher ups have conceded this upcoming season given the fact we're going in with a team that's a shell of what it was last year.

The only way I'm giving Huepel a pass for this year is if we land a top 5 recruiting class with all the funds we've presumably saved from not paying guys what other teams in the portal were willing to pay. However, if we land another mediocre 10-15 recruiting classes paired with losing so many contributing players to the portal I have to assume we are a broke program that can't compete in this new money driven era of college football.
The sky is falling and the drama continues. Woe is this team. Gloom Despair and Agony on this team.

Nobody here believes they should have a literal say in how others spend their money. No, it's not "our" NIL program. But to pretend like the common fan who buys tickets, buys merch, attends games, devotes time and emotional investment into this football program should just keep their mouths shut and not have an opinion on NIL is a pretty arrogant attitude to have.

Go get a GM. He will have to be thick skinned because our fans will always have pitch forks and a bon fire ready.

Think we realize we have no shot at winning playoffs this year and our keeping our cash until next year when the QBs and team are ready to make a push.

Tenn doesn't have the same deep pockets as the top schools, so there's only so much you can put on the coach. A legitimate question would be, is Tenn only a 10-11 win school for at least the near future? If that's the case, you'd be a fool to fire Heupel.
I don't see anything changing in the near future as far as this chaos with signing players and then losing them even before they play a down. That includes all schools not just TN. The old system of recruiting a great class, then another the next year, and by the 3rd year they are seasoned and poised to win a NC....those days are over. I don't see how a coach can mentally put up with the players jumping ship every day...it's just insane

there are several reasons (Which I've seen you enough to believe you understand them) on how and why you shop.

1. The skills and abilities of your roster dictate what your needs are in recruiting.
2. You recruit to those needs for the roster but fiscally responsible.
3. If they had needs that required additional funding that is available.
4. They won't pay more for a backup player than they are paying players that start.
5. They will pay players what they feel they are worth.

I've seen references to the "money they have saved with Nico leaving" to be used to bring in players. The collective is like you or I. We receive income monthly, weekly or bi-weekly. We pay down our expenses when we get our income each pay period. The collective works the same way.

They didn't get 8 million dollars to stick in the bank or invest when Nico signed or do they for any player. They collect money as needed monthly to pay players for their NIL based agreements with the players and donors to the collective. Big donors cover the most expensive NIL agreements but they are not giving up those funds on the front end. They didn't get rich spending foolishly.

We are not a poverty program. We build the roster based on needs.
How are the Safety and Wide Receiver positions looking for 2025?

I would pity the poor person that accepted the job as GM of this football program...no matter what decision he made, it would be wrong.

For now, I'll trust White and Heupel to manage the train.

Read LWSVOL's posts above yours. He clearly states NIL $ are not an issue with TN. They spend as needed.

As for players leaving, happens with every team just no one pays attention to other teams. I get that but when you live in other states with SEC programs you hear a lot about it.
I guess I've been wasting my time listening to the guys who cover the program who say we aren't quite the level of the Ohio States and Texas'.

Dobbs 4 Heisman drops back to pass. He's got Heupel wide open over the middle. Dobbs 4 Heisman let's it go. Oh no, the pass was thrown behind Heupel and incomplete. Here comes the punter.

Well, just saw on TV that ALL season tickets are sold, and at a 97% renewal rate. So I will take a big pass on giving up on this staff and this team. The 3% are just loud and prolific.

They have more money and it's unlikely we can ever match them. Just the way it is

I’m not upset about the portal recruiting. Only a few guys I’ve seen I’d really want. the KY WR Key has been a good player. He was locked into Neb early I heard. I’m not a fan of Brown. Has always been a guy lookin for a bag IMO. None of the other WR portal guys really impressed me to the point I thought it would impact the season.

I think they recovered nicely losing the Thompson kid to LSU. Pendleton looks like a great addition & has 3 more years!

I heard a SEC head coach say last year the portal will gradually offer diminishing returns. It appears lesser players are being paid more money this year which would reduce your ability to sign top level HS recruits.

How are the Safety and Wide Receiver positions looking for 2025?

they could use one more of each for depth purposes...

Brazzell is a junior that came from Tulane and had struggles last year. I anticipate more from him this year.
Matthews and Staley should be the other two starters both have limited experience but were highly rated recruits.
Dodson, Jackson, Jefferson and Smith are all freshmen with no experience.

Safeties are SR Turrentine and SO Farooq. Boo Carter will be the nickel. Backups are TBD..

Austin Price said on 104.5 we are not looking for starter receiver and are not going to pay that rate for a back up. He said Jacob Thomas indicated a family situation when he talked to him on Thursday. While he was surprised by his decision, said he and Christian Charles have same agent and is sure he promised there is more money for both of them in portal.

I was being Sarcastic, the Safety group is a disaster with both position groups at the bottom of the SEC in terms talent and production
