Are there really 51 Power 5 coaches better than Butch?

I'm not one on here saying he's better than Harbaugh, or even top 20...but stupid to be in 50 range. I'd also bet that the 5 guys who did this ranking didn't have last 2-3 years records in front of them either...just a blind ranking on public opinion. To that point, we all know Butch does himself NO favors w/ his press conferences w/ dumb comments. However, if the young men on the team are buying in, which apparently, they are, I don't really care about 5 "experts".

Excellent post, unfortunately about %40 around here just want to win no matter what the kids grades are or arrest record.

Wow. That's pretty damn good. You have 10 likes here yet if you posted the same thing in the recruiting forum, you'd get maybe 2 likes and then get called a pu***. It's interesting how the Football forum is always a lot more critical than the Recruiting forum.

The recruiting forum posters are more realistic and football savvy.

I don't care. You mad bc we didn't win the east. Suck it. You win though bc I don't give two ****s about you my man.

it's a message board, i'm not looking for approval or "new friends". you said Butch has brought us to the point where we could expect championships.

that's just false. we expect championship level performance because our program is a championship caliber program. was, has been, will be, regardless of the coach, my man.

No they're not. They have a different focus in discussing more narrow issues around recruiting. Most choose not to come over to the FF and give opinions about a much wider scope of topics related to football and the Vol program, which is fine. But you're being ignorant in stating they're more realistic and football savvy, that's not true.

I'm pretty sure you're giving them kudos because they don't traffic in nearly as much opinion and criticism of Butch Jones....that's your real issue imo.

Coaches who should be behind BJ.

Orgeron
Brohm
Clawson
Bielema (while he did more at Wisconsin that BJ did, hes been worse in the SEC)
Taggart (lets see what he can do at a major program first)
CBJ would struggle more than Bielema at Arkansas imo.

Your right about the unproven coaches imo

Yes I'm being ignorant. Nice resort to name calling.

Anyhoo, their football savviness runs circles around you. Your year 5 rants match your year 3 rants with Butch. We get it, you can't stand him. You change coaches as much as you would want to and it would be hard pressed to find a highschool coach to come here.

Good grades and staying out of trouble are goals, but they're not a substitute for winning. If a team is losing to Vandy, saying "but they were on their best behavior!" rings hollow. That's Ty Willingham

In his second year as head coach, Jim Harbaugh had 11 players drafted. In a single draft. Those aren't guys he recruited; that's the situation he inherited.

How many did Butch have drafted after his second season? What did Butch inherit?

There's simply no comparison between the two starting points.

If you ignore all the other massive differences in situation between Michigan at Harbaugh's arrival and Tennessee at Jones', you should at least carefully consider that.
IIRC, except for Tiny the whole OL he inherited was either drafted or had a chance to play in the NFL, right? McCullers is still on an NFL roster after being declared "useless" by Jones defenders. Brian Randolph who was declared "too slow" by posters here because Jones and staff could not get their defenders in position to be successful posted a legit 4.4 at his pro day and is currently a Ram unless something has changed recently. There's little doubt AJ would have been drafted if not for the legal issues. Maggitt was an inherited player who as UFA made the Colts roster and played in 9 games.

By no stretch was the team deep with talent. But MOST here VASTLY overestimate how "terrible" it was. Every Vandy coach inherits a roster with little to no NFL talent on it. Their lofty goals usually amount to making a bowl. UT wasn't that bad off and has much better resources... the goals should be significantly higher.

I can give Jones some credit for the idea of building from the foundation up with the intention of living with the early "pain" for the later "gain".... except that the gains have not been realized to the degree they should have been. The losses to Vandy and USCe last year place that point beyond doubt. The continued problems of attrition and excessive injuries serve as proof. The tolerance of Lawson in spite of the issues in S&C are a proof. The hiring of the "best staff in America"... which included guys who obviously weren't SEC quality coaches serves as proof.

I wouldn't give him much rope if I were the AD or whoever ultimately makes the call. But my goal is to see UT talked about in the same breath with Bama, Clemson, and Ohio State... not to win 8 regular season games, finish 3rd in a weak division, and hope not to slip against a team from the SEC's lower half.
