'24 AR RB Braylen Russell (Arkansas commit)

I just don't see it with Wright.

Yes he is fast and surprisingly strong, but that's it.

The fumbles are a problem.

Worse than that his vision is atrocious. Dude can't find a hole and he can't make anybody miss in the open field ever. He kinda tippy toes to the line of scrimmage sometimes.

That's why Small still starts over him. Small would be incredible if he were faster and a little bigger because he does have good vision.

All of our younger backs have way more potential to me. I love Small and Wright. They have been pivotal for us, but neither one of them would sniff the field in basically any other era of TN football.
Maybe one of them would start over Marlin Lane?

Other than that they greatly benefit from our offense.
Gonna have to agree to disagree. Jabari is solid but I think Jaylen’s considerably more slippery between the tackles.

His fumbles are why he’s not the clear 1 but he still topped Jabari in most stats although I realize a lot of that is situational.

I have really high hopes for Seldon and Lewis tho I think they will be great weapons

He's way off on his evaluation of Wright. He missed basically all of summer and the early part of Fall camp last season. That contributed to the early season fumble issues last year. If you watch him the second half of the season, you get a true representation of the kid. Now he's had a full healthy off season and is noticeably bigger and stronger. If he stays healthy, he'll have a huge season.

I think it's going to be Keith and Sampson come 2024 with Seldon still getting 10 touches a game

Why would Seldon not play over Keith? Seldon is listed at the same height and is not too much smaller. So much more explosive and is already a big back
Because Keith will be the thunder to Sampson's lightning.

And like I said about Seldon months ago, the defense will never be able to key in on him because Heupel will put the kid everywhere.

Yep. And Wright’s wrist injury also contributed to the fumbles.

Also, criticizing his vision was valid his freshman year. Not his sophomore year. That improved tremendously. It often does with a year to acclimate, learn an offense, and study film.

Wright will have an outstanding season in 2023.

I think a lot of people forget that Wright didn't get a senior season of football due to covid. He was just getting into a groove last season. His best football is still ahead of him. I think Sampson is ready to break out this season as well. Jabari is that seasoned vet. Not flashy, but steady and reliable. He's also the one that's been pushing these younger guys and bringing them along. We have a nice RB room.

Wright is a great RB and was robbed of that TD against Purdue.

Whoever thinks he’s been underwhelming obviously hasn’t watched much football over the years.

That’s how it is for most kids at powerhouse programs that win 10+ games a year. Hopefully things keep progressing and UT does that for the next couple decades.

Thr problem now is those kids will just hit the portal if they are not playing within a year or two

UT having two senior RBs getting the majority of the carries is probably uncommon these days.

And we’ll just replace them with other kids from the portal or HS signees. Play the best players and it’ll all workout.

If you’re winning 10+ games a yr getting talent is not a problem. They would just replace that kid and the machine would keep running.

Heupel mentioned Keith in the spring about being their short yardage specialist...
And he wasn't even on campus yet.

He'll see the field plenty.
Maybe he will, maybe he wont, kinda unfair for me to say that considering he hasn’t even practiced yet, but that fact also goes both ways

Yeah I doubt we’re going to break from what we normally do so that we can stop and sub a freshman RB into the game to telegraph the next play.

He might get some snaps in very specific situations on the goal line, but I agree that’s most likely it unless injuries occur.

I'm a big Jaylen Wright fan. I don't think that description is accurate at all. But I don't feel like elaborating. We don't have to diss our guys to praise our new guys. If we did, there would be something wrong with the new guys: but our new guys are top shelf.
Small definitely has the better vision of the 2. I think we can recognize that without it being “dissing” our guy. He really struggled with it freshman year, was a little better there last year.
