Appalachian State

I get it but you may want to rethink MTSU on your list. Why? They have a larger student body count than does UTK these days, reality bites, don't hate.

Since when does enrollment mean anything on a football field? UCF has around triple the enrollment that UT does. It didn't help them on the football field any though.

I'm sure we have plenty of MTSU alums on this board, but outside of Tennessee, MTSU is the definition of a no name school. Signing up tons of barely qualified high schoolers certainly doesn't change that.

That's what Michigan thought in '07. They'll be a lot tougher opponent than some might think.

This isn't that Appy State team and UT isn't that Michigan team. Those Appy State teams with Armanti Edwards were special. It was the best FCS team I've ever seen.

The only reason this game will be any close is because it's the first game of the season against an actual not horrible opponent.

I fully expect, like every year, there to be a few kinks that need to be worked out and practiced. It will probably start out a little slow, but by the end of the game we will have pulled away by about 20-24 points. I don't foresee this 55-10 shellacking the D4H and others have predicted.

I think 45-20 is more realistic, with 7 of those points they score being off some garbage time touchdown.

Yes, I get that. I love to watch that game replayed. Perfect storm for UM. But AS recruits some pretty good athletes still. They won't roll over. I'm not saying it'll be that close, but I don't think it'll be a big blowout either.

2015 Appalachian State Mountaineers Football Schedule

Look, I give them credit for what they're doing, and they can only play the teams on their schedule. That said, look at who they beat last year. The best team they played, and the team we're closest to in talent on that schedule is Clemson, and Clemson destroyed them.

Appalachian State vs. Clemson - Game Recap - September 12, 2015 - ESPN

Look at the box score of that game. It was 31-0 at half. We should win by 21+ in this game with vanilla play.

Good thing you don't have a personal stake. :)

I don't think they're better than VT (though I'd watch that game) but it's a really fun QB/RB combo with lamb and cox.

I hope Miami in Boone is interesting.

I think they can most definitely upset VT though. They may not be a better team but an upset in which I would call a mild one would be possible. Thanks!

Tennessee is more or less a 25 point favorite over this team and should hammer them by about 40..can't see this one being close
can't see a reason for this one being close

Bottom line is that Appy state is a good team, but they are an entire level below TN. They just don't have any blue chip talent on that team. Tennessee is loaded with it, therefore they will win by at least 3 or 4 scores.

Exactly what some folks in Ann Arbor thought a few years ago. Do not take this team lightly, because they are always highly motivated. They will also be taking on the same OC they saw in Michigan. Hopefully DeBord is up for redemption.

So forget your bottom line. And forget your blue chip talent. Vols need to come out wanting it more and playing like it, because if they don't, Appy State will be more than happy to take it. I just hope none of the players share your attitude, because those lesser guys will knock them on their prissy asses.

Dobbs mentioned the Michigan loss...the "secret" is out! :scare:

That game against Michigan was a fluke. The game in Knoxville won't be close.

Exactly. Look up the Appy State VS LSU score the following year. That's more like how this year's game will be.

the sagarin ratings from last yr have the vols 13-14 point favorites without figuring hfa and they return as much as we do...lot of reasons to think tn-23 is too many points..

Get your facts straight.Record crowd is 31,531.Future plans to get 43,000.

Gotta admit I really want to go to a game there. Would love to go during the fall. I've heard nothing but great things about the venue.

Almost the same thing was said about Utah State, Arkansas State and Bowling Green. How did that work out?

Does anybody remember the best thing about that upset? Having App St land in Johnson City after the flight out of Michigan and stepping off the plane shouting "Rocky Top"!! Johnson City was the closest airport to Boone and being exhausted and a bit giddy Rocky Top was all they could come up with to chant when they stepped off the plane..It has always been one of my favorite sidenotes..And IIRC App St won that game with only 27 players dressed, which made it all the more shocking..
IMO One of the strangest SEC/FCS upsets was The Citadel knocking off Arkansas in 1992, costing Jack Crowe his job and helping send Ark to a 3-7-1 season. But I'm sure most folks have forgotten that Lloyd Carr also lost his job at Michigan.Apparently an FCS loss can actually change a program's direction, good or bad...
I also remember back in 2010 when James Madison upset #13 ranked Va Tech. That upset loss seemed to only be a speedbump for the Hokies..They bounced back nicely to remain nationally relevant every season after..But I digress....
Personally, I don't think there's even the slimmest of a chance for an App St upset this year in Knoxville...

Like I said before, that Appy State team was special. They were the most talented FCS team I had ever seen. I saw them beat a Joe Flacco-led Delaware team in the FCS championship game and they were impressive! I truly believe they could've hung with a LOT of FBS teams that year.

2015 - Blown out by Clemson 41- 10
2014 - Blown out by Michigan 52-14
2013 - Blown out by Georgia 45-6
2012 - Blown out by E. Carolina - 35-13
2011 - Blown out by Virginia Tech - 66-13
2010 - Blown out by Florida - 48 -10
No power 5 team scheduled in 2009
2008 - Blown out by LSU - 48-10
2007 - Beat Michigan 34-32

Out scored 323 - 76 for an average score of 53.8 - 12.6 since the Michigan game. Roughly losing by 31 points per game. Wow, scary...

So let's all talk about 2007
I was 34. A little less fat in the gut. I could still dunk a basketball.
Good times.
None of that is true now though.

I remember attending this game.

Not sure if this was posted anywhere else but
Appalachian State All-Sun Belt First Team CB Latrell Gibbs ruled ineligible for 2016. Had 7 INTs last yr. Definitely a big loss for them even though we would have smacked them by 30 either way

What do you think the score would be in an App. St vs. UGA game?
