It may be interesting for about a quarter and and half the the flood gates will open.
TN 48
App St 20

They're not going to score that many unless the back ups play a lot more than they should in the first game of the season.

Yes they will. They have an offense thats as good as BG was last year.

I wouldn't go that far, BG was VERY good with an NFL caliber qb that could make every throw. Appy has a decent qb as far as throwing the ball, but a very good athlete. We still have loads more talent and depth and should win this game somewhere around 50-21. Clemson beat them I think 42-10.

Missy St does things like this and I don't understand why. I can't find the incentive. Since 2008 they've played at LA Tech (which they're doing again in 2017), MTSU, UAB, Troy, South Alabama, and Southern Miss. This yr they play at UMass (granted they play at Gillette but still) and BYU.

I'm with you...I'd be completely embarrassed if we played road games like that.

Edit: oh and UT wins 41-14.

The economics are interesting. Obviously, UM will be paid to attend. Pure profit after travel expenses. If they stayed home at SunLife Stadium, their attendance is abysmal. We are talking Vandy like numbers here. To host Appy State, the stadium would have to be opened and staffed, they would have to pay AS to attend and play and all the while try to pay these expenses with limited income.

In 2013, the last year I could find the numbers for attendance, UM had less than 50K attendance (how many were visitors attending).

Total offense, Bowling Green was 4th and Appalachian State was 26th. Not quite as good. Also, looking at the competition, the only decent team Appy State played was Clemson; they scored a whopping 10 points that game. They shouldn't put up 20 on us. Not even when walk-ons come in the game.

I think we'll showcase the pass game more in 2016.

I don't know if showcase is the right word. Dobbs needs the practice and we need receivers to catch the ball. There have been a lot of Dobbs' throws that could have easily been intercepted. Dobbs needs to show us his improvement in the passing game. We're going to have to have a decent pass game if we're to go to the SECCG & beyond.

I think it will be close at halftime, they will be fired up and we may be a little overconfident. I think we pull away in the second half to win by 17 to 21 points.

Bottom line is that Appy state is a good team, but they are an entire level below TN. They just don't have any blue chip talent on that team. Tennessee is loaded with it, therefore they will win by at least 3 or 4 scores.

That's what Michigan thought in '07. They'll be a lot tougher opponent than some might think.

I can't imagine Tennessee coming out flat in the home opener at night. I could see it being like Vandy where they make it look closer than it really was with a couple of late scores. Something like 52-21.

Dale Jones coaches the inside backers. As long as he's not suiting up, we should be fine :) Good guys 48 ASU 24

A win like Appy St had comes along only once every 9-10 years...

Wait, what?

I'd be much more worried about this game if Butch's teams at UT didn't have such a good track record of taking care of business in games like this.

And when they played again? Hate crime! Our players are going to hear NOTHING BUT "Appy State beat Michigan BLAH BLAH BLAH" on ESPN and other outlets. It's going to be ugly for the visitors...real gross stuff. :yuck:

And THEN the recurring theme will be "What was Tennessee trying to prove? They were clearly dominant and wouldn't ease down BLAH BLAH BLAH".
