Any updates on Devrin Young?

I don't understand thanking kids for their "sacrifice". I'm sorry but my boys would have walked to Knoxville to play for the vols. It's not like these kids went off to war or joined the armed services. They got very lucky with life's opportunities.

Well why didn't they walk to Knoxville to play for the Vols?

You have no idea what you're talking about.

Keeping it "real" as an anonymous poster, critiquing the performance of a player who has already reached a level that most people never will, at anything.

Is there a point to be made about me, the anonymous poster? Or just pointing out that I'm critiquing Devrin Young. It might sound crazy, but you do not need to have accomplished the same things as people to critique them. Butch Jones didn't even play 1A ball, how is he critiquing his team in practice?

Just thought it was ironic.

There's more to being a valued member of the team than just being the same level of talent as the rest of the players at your position.

You're right about that. That's not a point I was arguing, however. I was simply stating that he was not on the same talent level of those at his position, which would be hard to argue.

So the only guy to unseat him was a pro bowl player?

This, and it's a good question because it points out how Young's KOR job was certainly up for grabs. If someone could beat him out they would have. CP could and did, so why not any others?

Because Devrin has been best suited for the job... at the Orange and White game Devrin caught like a record 9 punts while no one else was even close.

Can we just keep it real in the thread for once? Devrin was not a good football player. Four years later and he has less than 200 yards rushing, and less than 150 receiving. Say what you want about him working his butt off, but it didn't help him get in the starting lineup.

People like you are what is wrong with this country..

He plays football at a SEC school... That alone makes him a better player then 99.8% of players on this planet.

Please go staple your fingers together so you are unable to type and post again, you are an embarrassment to any Tennessee fan with an IQ over 80.

Criticize his lack of big plays as a Vol all you want. I'm no defender, but fans tend to forget the return situation before he arrived. We couldn't field a punt to save our lives. Teams would gain most of their yards on muffed points during that period.

If DY never did anything more than just fair catch punts...He would have worth the investment of a scholarship. At the time I just wanted Tennessee to stop putting a returner on punt returns and just punt rush the extra man.

Are you saying that Ricardo Colclough, who played for Tusculum and the NFL, was not more than "Tusculum level talent?"

Don't be a fool my friend. Just playing in the SEC does not qualify you as better than "99.8%" of players.. Out of every team's starting 22, few of them are considered great football players. Not a lot of them will even play professional football. There are tons of great football programs outside of the SEC, and a lot of great players all over the country. Slightly ironic that you follow that statement mentioning fans with IQs over 80.

Also, I'll be checking all the sarcastic Rod Wilks threads posted on this site to see if you stick up for him like you are for Devrin.

Fans like me give us a bad name? A fan who critiques a player on a team that I cheer for, on a website dedicated solely for other fans of the same team. Not really tracking how I'm giving Tennessee fans a bad name here.

Or, you don't agree with me.. that would be a much better response.

You keep saying critique.

I don't think it means what you think it means.

"critique (verb) - evaluate in a detailed and analytical way." It means exactly what I think it means. In terms of a football player, he's not cutting it. Statistically, he's nowhere near productive on offense. Special teams, he's close to decent. I'm not saying he shouldn't be on the team. I am definitely saying he should not be receiving all of this praise as a football player.

Statistically he's one of 6.4% of high school football players in the US who get the opportunity to play college football.

I'm getting a lot of conflicting information about the same statistic. Could you refer me to the credible source you're citing? Also, that stat does not really translate to talent. Out of that 6.4%, there are studs and duds.. and if you had an opportunity to trade a dud for a stud, you would. When Cordarrelle became the number one returner, you heard no quarrels from the Vol faithful.

Lastly, I am in no way arguing that Devrin Young is not a hard working young man who has contributed to this football program. I'm just saying he is definitely not as good as we are saying he is.
