I think I agree with what BTO is saying. The class CDT brought together in 3 weeks was impressive, but there is SOMETHING he is missing on when he meets with these recruits. We can't expect a Butch in recruiting, we get that, but is CDT instilling the belief Tennessee will become a national power within the next four years? This is what I'm worried about, because to ME if we aren't even making the top 8 on top 100 or even top 150 guys, these recruits must not think highly of Tennessee basketball. You get what I'm throwing out?
We'll see. He is in Dwayne Bacon's top two it seems. That's a 5 star. Clarke is a top 40 player on 247. That's a pretty highly rated guy.
You've got to give Cuonzo credit for landing Stokes, but at the same time, you've got to realize also that the stars aligned for that to happen. Cuonzo closed the deal, but had Jarnell not been ruled ineligible for his high school senior year, had we not had a open scholarship or had other schools had an open scholarship, or had Jarnell not accidentally picked up a phone call from CCM, it likely would have went down a lot different.
Not trying to take anything away from Cuonzo, but that situation worked out perfectly for him.
You want to compare classes, just look at the 2014 class that Tyndall built in a few weeks versus the same class Martin built over a few years.
Now, like you, I'm concerned about getting left off lists of a couple of these kids. I was hoping we'd land a top target early to gain momentum. So far, the most disappointing has been Evans who we were all in on. On the positive side, we are in it for Bacon, Clarke, Marshall, Maye, Miller, Fitzpatrick at the present time.
Most college coaches struggle landing top flight classes in the early going. It's tough to come in late on these kids who have been recruited heavily for long periods of time. Yes, Anderson has done a nice job at Mizz but we've also seen Bruce Pearl bring in Ryan Childress in his first class and lose out on guys like Tyler Smith, the Delk twins, Jamont Gordon. Pearl's class in 2007 was highlighted by Cameron Tatum.
Side note: I feel like you know all this and agree with me but you are hell bent on arguing with a single poster on this forum about recruiting because you didn't like the way he viewed CCM's recruiting.
wasnt meant as a crack on volquest.....i love that site but i think CDT seems to be keeping things close to the vest bc VQ seems to be behind on things when it comes to the program such as Scott visiting without them knowing it.
yes he needs to be top 100 heavy in his recruiting for us to be the type of program i want us to be.....hopefully this yr will be a step in the right direction. i have no clue who he will sign and u dont either.
Man, you gotta admit you weren't nearly this critical of Martin . I don't know , maybe you think you were , but your posts wreak of Martin bias . I'm sorry dude , I have nothing against you , you should just go ahead and admit it . CDT isn't CCM and you don't like it
I have no problem with being critical of missing the top group for some of these recruits we have targeted. I do have a problem with comments like "Kim Anderson is killing it in recruiting" (in comparison to CDT), because that simply isn't true, or at best, is a gross overstatement.
Pearls 2nd class was top 10, and included 2 five stars according to rivals, a 4 star and a 3 star. I'm not sure at what point most of those guys committed, but I would guess it was before the NCAAT appearance that first season.
Top 15 compared top 50, seems like a pretty damn good job to me.
Simple question...if the story was flipped, would you feel better about Tyndall's recruiting than you currently do?
I sure as heck would, and I guarantee you there work be posters saying what a great recruiter he is, how bright the future is etc.
He took two 5* guys that were known character risks. Pearl rolled the dice and it backfired down the line. Point was that instant success in recruiting is not the norm which is evident in Pearl's 1st and 3rd classes. Also, his 2nd class included 1 long term contributor out of 5 high school signees.
2 five stars = both kicked off team before reaching their junior year.
1 four star that was arguably Pearl's best 4 year recruit
1 three star guy that I don't think ever played.
Chism and Crews were fall signees. Ramar was not.
if they are forgetting about basketball, then why do u think they know who CDT's main targets are?
So what're you saying? We can't judge recruiting classes until 4 years later?

some kids don't want to come in for one year and work the hardest they ever have. That's the way it is. Cdt isn't going to change. He's just going to find the kids that know the commitment required and isn't going to deal with the ones that don't.
We'll see if it works. They are out there. You just have to filter through the coddled ones that can play ball but have no intention on working their butts off. Problem is those outnumber the mentally tough and hard working ones by a large number.
And weeks out of foot surgery or broken bone means nothing anyway. Feet are weird. They look weird and they react weird to being injured and anything in regards to a lis franc injury or something as such that occurs within the foot is a pain in the ass to fix and heal.
At any rate, back to your panic. And if somebody is going to be rude and fire back at me, i aint got no time for it.

Not buying the "makes em work too hard" narrative. Scott put up pretty solid numbers last year, even though his mother was in a coma, so I'm going to guess that he is mentally tough to some extent.
Am buying the broken foot. D.T. kicked the tires, didn't like what he saw, wanted it fixed, and the kid didn't want to go that route. Seems like a pretty simple story, with no need to speculate about work ethic and mental toughness.
Was this rude? I can't tell sometimes.
