Based on reports from around the world, and the data of multiple sources, it is at the very least fair to conclude that since 1999 there have been more people shot to death in American schools than in any other country. There will be statistical discrepancies based on how each individual source defines a school shooting. For example, some sources are reporting the Minneapolis shooting as a church shooting, while others are calling it a school shooting.
.... and you shouldn't bring up the mental illness of some of these shooters and not address the ease of access to firearms that some of them have had, in spite of their diagnosis of mental illness and being on prescription medication for it. The 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooter from Newtown, Connecticut, Adam Lanza, wasn't just a dangerous person because of a mental illness or because of any prescribed medication that he was under. He was also dangerous because his mother, Nancy Lanza, was an irresponsible gun owner, who didn't safeguard her arsenal of firearms from her son, who she obviously knew to be mentally ill. She kept a vast array of guns in an unlocked closet in their house. However, because her son killed her before killing 26 people at Sandy Hook Elementary School, there is nobody for law enforcement to hold accountable for this awful tragedy. So, what do we do? Nothing.
The mother of Newtown, Conn., elementary school gunman Adam Lanza spent her time at home taking care of her son who could not deal with school, and kept an arsenal of guns at home, "60 Minutes" reported Sunday night.
