Announcers on Sat night

The commentating was certainly a head scratcher that game. The guy of the two seemed to be genuinely annoyed when things went our way.

And at the end of the game, what was that dude talking about lol. He was suggesting kicking the field goal from the 50, and kept calling that 4th and 10 by KY “decision time.” What was there, like 25 seconds left?

Then he said “If KY doesn’t convert this, they give Tennessee the ball back with 3 timeouts.” If they didn’t convert the game was over.

The only thing I could figure out was that he was confused about who had the lead.

An absolute DUMBASS! Mowens kept trying to tell him, but he STILL fricked it up. I turned the sound down on the replay; they gave me a dang Headache! Geeze People! Where the hell do you find these morons?

Mowins voice is annoying.

espn obviously doesn't care. Back in the Day, to get an announcing gig, you needed a PLEASANT Voice! John Ward, Pat Summeral, Frank Gifford, Curt Gowdy, Jack Buck, All had Melodic Voices. espn is more into Cheap & Woke.

So the analyst of the team, he was awful. His football IQ was about a 3, though he wanted everyone to think it was up around a 9. He very frequently misunderstood what just happened. I mean, even my 82 year old mother said once or twice, "that's not what happened, is it?" after he described the previous play. And his brain aneurysm toward the end of the game, where he thought there was a key tactical decision to be made that just wasn't there, that was a head scratcher. The guy simply wasn't very good.

But Beth, I like her. I think she does a good job with the play-by-play. I don't hear her often, but every time I do, she's painting an accurate picture of what's happening on the field, getting the players' names right, helping out her analyst side kick when he clearly needs rescuing. I think she's a real pro.

In fact, somewhere in the middle of the game, maybe at halftime, I found myself appreciating how she has very quietly and professionally had a good career calling football games. She doesn't make her job some feminist cause, she doesn't play up being a very small minority in a vastly man-dominated career path, she just does her job and does it well.

But yeah, you wanna hate on a performance, hate on the analyst. He did abysmally.

Finally… I’m glad I found someone I agree with in this ridiculous thread!

Forgive me if it's mentioned somewhere else but, BETH MOWINS "play by play" makes me want to jab pencils in my ears . I just really can't stand a woman announcer, period! Kirk Morrison wasn't much better. We obviously got the bottom of the barrel Saturday night.

That could not have been said any better. Was just an awful broadcast. Camera work was not shift either.

At one point didn't she say that Kentucky was turning this rivalry around?

I was like, how can you possibly come to that conclusion?

Both of them were bad, but her voice is just like nails on a chalkboard, at least it is to me.

If you can't stand a woman announcer, you may wanna ask some difficult questions of yourself.

Yes, she was bad. But not because she's a woman. And Kirk Morrison was much worse.
He has a right to not like female announcers. He didn’t say they couldn’t be announcers. He has right to his opinion, just like you. When did we get to the point that people can’t have opinions. Now if he actively went out of his way to punish women or keep them from doing things that is different. But he simply said he didn’t like female announcers.

Hey y'all - this "he" is a she, by the way..............and I still said what I said.

Not sure that it matters if you are a "he", "she", or "it". I think most on this forum are in agreement that both Beth and Kirk were horrible but instead of critiquing their individual performances we have a smattering of "women have no business" comments. Coming from another woman or hiding behind "it's just my opinion" doesn't change the nature of the comments.

Is your assumption that most broadcasters have played in the past? I'm not sure that John Ward played football, maybe in high school. Mike Keith played some high school football, that's it. Bob Kesling play football at UT, Kirk Morrison and Greg McElroy played in the NFL. Bob, Greg, and Kirk all have ton of experience playing but don't "speak football like it's a second language".

Yes, everyone has a right to their opinion but this doesn't mean that all opinions are equal. Additionally, you/they post an opinion in a public forum which is design to garner both positive and negative critique, this isn't denying someone a right to an opinion. If someone does feel so strongly about a topic that they feel the need to post it in a public forum then they should also be prepared for any discussion and dialog. BTW it's a "she" not a "he", see above.

I don't mind a female sports broadcaster. What does bother me, is the appearance of having to have one who has a deeper voice than many men, as a means to overlook the fact we're listening to a female.
Yeah, I don't think she does a bad job and tries to be professional and doesn't seem biased like others but I can't stand her voice.
Edit: and the analyst was worse.

Pronouns are non specific to me anymore. So you have offended me in correcting my pronoun usage.

Just because you can do something doesn’t mean you should. He has the right to be racist, sexist, Marxist, and xenophobic too. Nobody said he didn’t “have the right.” Stop confusing what one has the right to and what one should do. It’s a desperate and poor defense of wrongheadedness.
