And the decommitments start

That's real incisive and original. Got nothing to do with the discusssion, but hey, that's so intelligent. What else you got. I'm amused.
Still waiting for your examples of this "It's may be happening to Tennessee now and has happened previously".

Dictionary.com has summed up “OK boomer” as “a viral internet slang phrase used, often in a humorous or ironic manner, to call out or dismiss out-of-touch or close-minded opinions associated with the Baby Boomer generation and older people more generally.”

College Football News has us rated number 33 in the past five years....think about it number 33. These young men coming out of high school that are 4 and 5 star talents are being courted by every coach in the country and being told that they can take them to the pros.

Now most of them only pay attention to what has happened in the last 5 years. None of them remember or care about or past history . We have a great facility (probably top 10), good school, nice area and a passionate fan base but we have not been a steady winner in the last 10 years and most of these kids we are recruiting were 1 or 2 years old when we were good.

So with all that being said and you were in their shoes what would you do after reading the boards listening to other coaches and seeing our past hiring history and where our fired coaches are now. NONE OF THEM ARE A HEAD COACH ANYWHERE. That says a lot.

I wonder why? Butch Jones had a pretty decent career before he came here. Johnny Majors had a good run until Fulmer and the fans did a number on him(I'm not a big Fulmer fan). Being fair though, the Fulmer backers claim Fulmer was treated badly. He's not coached since being fired. Something in the water here destroys them as a coaches. Wonder what it is? Are they no good before they became a head coach here or are there other factors? I'm not buying what some are saying about bringing in a successful, proven coach. One of the best ever was a young assistant coach at Arkansas who played his college ball at Florida. Our athletic director by the name of Bob Woodruff hired him as our head coach. Doug Dickey was his name. That couldn't happen today because many of our fans are hung up on the notion that our head coach has to have played at tennessee. There goes General Neyland out the window. Dickey did go on to become head coach at florida after he left here, but his career there wasn't great shakes. He did come back here as athletic director in 1985 and presided over what some would say was the golden age of of Tennessee sports, not just football, but practically every sport played a UT.

That doesn't make it an intelligent response. It's a quick hitting insult that is slung around when the user doesn't have anything more intelligent to say. It also shows how close minded and out of touch the user is. It adds nothing to the discussion and turns it into an immature name calling, insult slinging contest. Also used by those who don't know what they don't know and don't know it because they don't know it. Come back and post to me when you can do a little better than wht you've done thus far

Could be that we as fans are cut throat, we tend to have a win immediately mentality. If you look at how long it took for us to decline this far, it should expected to take some time to get back on top. If we really stop and think, we have had 4 coaches since Coach Fulmer was let go in 2008. What is that like a new coach every 3.25 years, no program would be on top at this rate. We as fans crying and always demanding a coach to be fired is not helping our situation. Can't think of any proven coach that would want to come to a program where there are so many sniveling fans that think they know how to coach better than them and always calling for them to be fired. Some need to realize that if they could do any better, they would be coaching themselves instead of complaining on a message board. Pruitt may not be the greatest coach as of today but come on, give the man a chance to turn it around. Sometimes things get way worst before getting better. Vol fans claim to love this program, if this is the case we need to stop bitching and support the staff and players regardless.

Can't blame the kid. If I'm his age and dream of one day playing in the NFL.....being at Tennessee will greatly hurt that chance right now.

Expecting to not be blown out by a bad Kentucky team at home, and lose to an Arkansas team with a first time first year head coach in Pruitt's third year, is not a "win immediately mentality".

Wish Pruitt would decommit....
have you considered decommitting? This is a very young very inexperienced team that missed spring and fall camps. They are going to need time and reps to get better and changing coaches/systems wholesale at this point would retard the process 3-4 more years.

You really believe recruits are more swayed by fans making fun of Pruitt's moronic responses in post-beat-down press conferences on Twitter, than they are the fact that Pruitt's teams are getting beat down week in and week out in year 3 by all levels of competition?
No. But I believe they are more swayed by Twitter and national media talk than “message boards” like VN, which was my only point I was trying to make.

I could get on board with the basic tenor of our statement if it weren’t for Pruitt trotting JG out there every week and claiming it is his best option to win. In the end, if that is his best option more than halfway through year three, pandemic or not, that is a complete and total failure to recruit and develop talent. And those two traits are the basis for what it will take to turn this around. Pruitt doesn’t have it, so the longer we pussyfoot around it, the longer and harder it will be for a coach he does.

I have been a Vol fan since 1957. My dad was a Vol fan starting in the 1930s. I have never known a period of time where our Volunteers were this bad for this long. I'm older now and don't like wasting my time. If the administration at UT no longer cares about a winning program I would like to know.

If they are not its time for them to stop wasting everyone's time and all the money it takes to run a football program. I've always given Fulmer a pass because his being basically a hard working VFL, a fellow Tennessean, and his love for the university. But now, even he is disappointing. The paying customers have been screwed over for far too long.
.

amen to everything you've experienced
AND it's particularly painful for those of us who are doomed to live among tide fans.

unfortunately that's true. Rational fans are the majority here, but unfortunately, you and yours are more vocal right now. you probably showed yourself prominently last yr when early in the season the mob wanted to fahr him. Every post you make helps prove my point.

Is Pruitt a good coach or not?

Yes or no?

Completely ridiculous logic to suggest the fans are more responsible for the slide of the program as opposed to the results on the field. Recruiting soared during the 90’s and early 2000’s due to the product on the field not because Fulmer had magic dust. Recruiting has overall declined since that era due to the product on the field. It isn’t difficult to understand. The product on the field has declined due to poor coaching overall other than a bright spot here and there. Nick Saban, Urban Meyer, Kirby Smart, Dabo Swinney, etc. don’t have some great personality that others don’t have. They win, therefore they are “great” recruiters. Every major university has passionate fans, UT is the rule not the exception.

bull to the 100th power

Here it is. Proof of what i said about unfair condemnation of Butch. you think we're going to get a good coach to come here with the likes of this? Judge Butch by results on the field( he gave us the two best seasons we'd had in while til the likesof you destroyed the respect of his team and killed his recruiting), and not by some comments he made that didn't hurt anything. Bunch of grade school kids---nah, nah- nah -nah-ha ha -five star hearts. you'e a bad coach because you said five star hearts--nah nah nah nah nah. You're post is the essence of why good coaches don't want to come here.
Dude, Butch Jones was a terrible coach whose only redeeming quality was that he recruited extremely well here. Those 2015 & 2016 teams were stacked and should have finished 10-2 or 11-1 but Butch snatched defeat from the jaws of victory against Oklahoma and Florida in 2015 (as well as losing to a lesser talented Arkansas) and loss to Vandy and South Carolina in 2016. The fact you are still defending him is absolutely mind boggling. None of what you said makes sense and everybody in this forum is now dumber for having read what you wrote. I award you no points and may god have mercy on your soul.

I'll agree with a lot of what you said here. Did I say fans are more responsible for the slide than results on the field.? If I did, i'm not aware of it and need to correct it. I know that i meant to say and probably did say and imply that the lynch mob mentality on this board does play a role in influencing recruits decisions and undermining a teams respect for their coach . Thinking that recruits and players don't access this board and are influenced by it is ridiculous.

Oh please... win immediately? It’s year 3 and we’re getting smacked by Arkansas with a first year coach. We got blasted at home by Kentucky, he’s winless against uga, Florida, and bama. And they haven’t even been close, he has more blowout losses than any coach we’ve had. And don’t forget that loss to Georgia state at home! Anyone with eyeballs can see Pruitt is a terrible coach. Hell, in year 3 we are debating if we can beat a winless Vanderbilt or not. That says it all. This whole fan blaming mindset you bring is 100% idiotic. You want to blame someone, start looking at Tennessee’s leadership, including fulmers a**.

Another poster on here whose brain is smaller than his tendency to insult. Quote: "May god have mercy on your soul." You're strange, did you know that? God will send me to hell for committing the sin of suggesting that the toxic board comments can have an impact on recruiting and team stability? If you're going the Christian route, why don't you learn to disagree in a Christian manner? Total lack of coherence between you opening comments(they are respectful and coherent )and how you ended up(somewhat strange) you must be on a holiday drunk. I'll defend Butch all day long from the likes of you.

How about you own your statements, and name the recruits who haven't come to Tennessee because of fan statements about the coach?

True or false- Toxic message boards and media have no effect on recruiting and team stability. In several of my recent posts I've indicated that i'm not sold on Pruitt. I think it's probably a mistake to fire him now. This is a crazy throwaway yr thats causing some very crazy results on the field of play. Should Franklin at Penn State be fire after starting 0-5.

In answer to your really bad question, let me state that you haven't answered my questions yet, particularly this one: True or False-Toxic media and/or messages boards play absolutely no role in influencing recruits or players

False. There is no evidence of any recruit citing "Toxic media and/or messages boards" as their reason for not attending a particular school.

So since you've already stated that recruits have chosen not to attend Tennessee because of fan statements about the coach, name the recruit who didn't attend UT because of something a fan said about a coach.

I'll make more of my excellent coffee while we wait.
