An Ugly List

Eric Gray and Ty Chandler will get at least 1000 yards in those offenses.

Oklahoma is gonna have their best team in a long while - they could easily run the table and go into the playoffs undefeated. Gray transferred into a good situation since a couple of their RBs from last season are no longer on the team. Oklahoma’s D is gonna be good this year so their high powered O will get more possessions - they could have multiple 1000 yard rushers.

Chandler should do well at NC and they might seek up some folks. He’s versatile and unselfish and good as a receiver coming out of the backfield. Even though we sucked the last couple of years, Chandler ended up with the 4th or 5th most all purpose yards among all UT RBs…he’ll do well in a functional offense (no JG)…

It's an objective fact that we will only play three teams (Georgia, Alabama, and Florida) in the 12 game season who have more talent according to recruiting rankings services. What our coaches will be able to make of that talent is a separate issue. I'm optimistic that they will achieve 7-8 wins, but it is guesswork until we see what kind of coaches Heupel et al really are.

College football transfer rankings: These 10 will make the most impact on their new teams in 2021

Over at CBS sports they got a list up of the most impactful transfers. Lets just say a few are from UT and a few are to our opponents in the SEC.

I dont have high hopes for this season. But maybe Heupel can bring us into a new era of mediocrity.
Yay, more "Let's denigrate the new head coach before he ever coaches his first game" thread. Gotta love the statement that he will lead us to a new level of mediocrity. You guys are just clueless.

Henry T, as much as I loved him, just didn’t live up to the hype last year. He didn’t seem to improve much at all. And crouch, frankly, was just not good. Should have stuck to RB. He was grossly underwhelming while here

We had talent, Pruitt was just an abysmal HC and nobody developed to their potential. We had an alarming number of busts during his tenure. Guys that could and should have been special, never were.
I also think--but don't know for fact--that the drama around Pruitt was probably there much of last season, not just at the end when Gray was held out. It also seems likely that Pruitt and/or his coaches only paid impermissible benefits to some of the players, which likely created divisions within the team. In retrospect, there may be reasons why To'o To'o was watching film by himself. Pruitt was just a disaster.

Those fans who believe we have talent are falsely believing the guys we brought in were better or equal to the insane amount of talent we lost. We probably lost five of the best players on to team to transfers alone (not counting Smith to the NFL)
While I agree to a degree, we do still have enough talent to compete.

Personally, I'm banking on us taking the classic underdog strategy: have a really good QB performance and a great scheme. That can win you a lot of games you otherwise shouldn't.

Ditto the “they gone“ comments and bring on the real VFLs. Maybe we should move on to FVWBOTT....FORMER VOLS WHO BAILED ON THEIR TEAM.

I didn't like reading it especially since it was about good players transferring to other schools and we were on the bad side of that equation. I think the roster looks pretty good but I don't care how you slice it and dice it we would be deeper (and probably better) in talent had those players stayed. I blame all of it on that moron Beldar. CJH has done the best he can stepping into the dumpster fire left behind. It's not great but it's probably better than some are thinking. Cheers...GO VOLS!

Huh? It's not a thread about "denigrate the new coach"? It's a thread about a main stream media story on player transfers. It's also the MSM outlet that is the primary national media source for the SEC. It has nothing to do with some random thread about "denigrate the new coach". Sheesh dude... 🙄

For the record, I'm not denigrating the head coach. This has nothing to do with the head coach. It has to do with the seniority in the UT athletic department that is either unwilling or unable to run with the big dogs.

And, frankly, that doesn't bother me. If its on purpose then its probably the right decision.

Lol Ty Chandler can't break a tackle so how is he going to get 1000 yards
By being in Mack Brown’s system. If he can be a 600-700 yard rusher in Pruitt’s system then he can definitely get 1000 in Mack’s system.

That "insane" amount of talent you refer don't do a lot of good if they aren't gvijing their all for Tennessee... Rather have the new ones that wanted to be here...

That’s a great narrative and all, but give me the talent

Good attrition. We cut out the cancers. Now we have a team that wants to be here and wants to win together. I don’t think any of the players that left will do well for other teams. They’ll be average or just above average at best. None will be All American or All Anything. We’ll be fine.

"Eric Gray and Ty Chandler will get at least 1000 yards in those offenses. "

While I hated to see both of them go, Chandler will need 334 carries to reach 1,000 yards. Either that, or they will have to grease his jersey before every game.
Actually his career average at UT was 4.9 yards/rush, so that’s pretty darn good in my book. Put him in Mack’s system and he may only need 150 carries to get 1000 yards. So I guess he’s nearly twice the player you view him to be.

So competition does not matter? My point is that Chandler's chances of success are increased due to lower competition.

They mostly ran over an ACC schedule last year that did not include Clemson. TAM stuffed their running game in their bowl matchup. UVa and ND also held them to under 3 ypc.

I'm not taking anything away from them. You play the team in front of you. But he will see a significant drop in average defender quality playing in the ACC.
Yes I do take competition into account, but I also take horrible coaching into account. My point is that if Chandler can be a quality back under Pruitt just imagine what he will do in a real coach’s system. Mack Brown is light years ahead of Pruitt whenever it comes to quality football. I’m not saying he will be ACC player of the year or anything close to that, but there’s going to be a lot of our fans viewing Chandler differently after this season.

That’s surprising, so he did do better than I remember and give him credit for. Thanks for realigning my perception of him as a runner.

I told my CEO, who is a NC alum, today that he is really good at catching passes out of the backfield, and we underutilized him in that aspect of the game.

You see it all the time, the right coach at the right school makes a huge difference. Maybe finally we have found the right coach. We're a sleeping giant in the making just need the right leader to turn us around. Look at baseball, and at basketball under Barnes and Pearl.

A lot of it is unproven but we do have talent. Not 12-0 or even 9-3 talent but we have enough to get bowl eligible. Especially considering the soft schedule this year.
Agree. I personally will be disappointed if we finish worse than 6-6. There are definitely 6 wins on that schedule

I like both Chandler and Gray. There are a lot of people poopooing Gray right now. I didn't think too much of him year before last. I felt like he went down if there was a stiff gust of wind. But IMO he ran better and with more power last year... albeit not great power.

Chandler is well developed and does a lot of things well. UNC has a void at RB with a good OL against mostly mediocre to bad competition. He should do well and personally I hope he does... though I hate UNC almost as bad as UF... which is A LOT.

Thats what we need. Lets change the slappin sign.
