Ament needs at least another year

Nate Ament is just not up to par on several aspects of his game. I have been saying this since December, but this last performance proves it. Love his style and ability to take over a game. But his mental errors, especially in his passing game are just not forgivable. His ability to recognize an open man has really suffered in the last few games. Tonight he forgot or someone didnt inform him of shot clock and passing to a covered player on an in=bounds possession, his throw made it difficult for Gillespie to get the ball, and turnover was made. Finally Barnes realized he was going no where with Ament and took him out several minutes. His shooting skill is awesome at times, but more than fewer, he takes a bad shot from 20 ft plus. Know he has been injured, but his game decision making has suffered as well. Nate would definitely do himself a favor by taking another year under Barnes. I don't think he will be playing in the NBA nest year, even if drafted high. Probably end up in the G league.

I don't know enough about the business to make an informed opinion other than to say he looks like a very talented freshman with a ton of potential that needs a lot of work before he is ready for the big league.

Maybe he will stay. He loves the college life at UT. That being said, his skills and size will increase faster next year with their developmental programs that are a full day vs.part time in college. Not starting and/or getting PT aren't a given and it doesn't matter. Hell, I selfishly hope he stays for another year

You cant say this. Ament is 1st round material. Or havent you heard? The ONLY NBA team I know dumb enough to take him as a lottery pick is the Wizards. If that were to happen, he'll never be heard of again. He isnt that good right now. Potential is one thing, but sooner or later you actually have to DO IT!!

He'll be in the G-league for 2-3 years before he makes a roster. Physically he's barely up to D-1 level, much less the NBA.

Staying would be smart, and only gives up guaranteed money, which he would get next year anyway.

But honestly, he's overpaid at $4M/year at UT, don't think we would do that again for what, maybe 8 games that he earned his lofty pay level.

Honest question:

Is funding a large catastrophic injury insurance policy a permissible NIL deal for Ament? I wouldn't think it would cost that much, as the risk of a career ending injury is very small for a soph basketball player.

He will be a lottery pick

Most likely a washout in 2-3 years but make that money now cause it's serious and the most t he might potentially make ever

NBA rookie gets 2 years guaranteed. He won’t play 2-3 years in the G-League. He will play in the NBA next year.

These "needs another year" takes on NBA first rounded - much less draft picks - are so dumb. Do you guys think the NBA doesn't develop players? You really think college, where there are classes and a thousand distractions is a better place to improve than in the world's premier league whose sole goal is to max out a player's skill & talent? They are pros. They have access to the best strength & conditioning, best competition, best nuitrion, best shot coaches, etc. They get to train everyday. They get to focus.

Ok, let's say he "needs another year" to get his NBA legs... even if that's true, he is better off in the NBA system. The only reasons to come back are if you have a supernatural love for college or if you can't get gauranteed money in a rookie contract. He's getting the money.

He’s not coming back. He will be drafted high based on his length and potential. NBA gives more time for development by far. He is also a long way from meaningful nba minutes imo. Too weak, not quick enough, not explosive and too often doesn’t show that edge that separates potential from reality. Unless he becomes that nba stretch 3 point shooter who sits in the corner waiting for his man to give help.
That said, tape it up, talk to team psych and go, or sit if his heads not right. Early turnover being passive and just handing the ball to the opponent like he was doing early in the season isn’t acceptable. Thats being not mentally ready.
Picking up his dribble at weird times reminded me of myself a long time ago scared on the court because I knew I was way overmatched. My coach at halftime telling me to stop being a p***y. He was right. Thing is I was 15 and had enough money for a jungle juice and chocodile, maybe, not 4 mil.
Tape it up and act like you are a lottery pick on the court or cheer on your teammates from the bench.
Sorry if that makes me a jerk but if he was 70’s/80’s kid in Memphis that’s what we as his teammates would be telling him.

So you don't believe in free speech? You have your opinion, I have mine. I HAVE heard. He might be DRAFTED, but it doesn't mean he will play. I doubt he plays the first year, or gets traded. He still needs a lot of work. Your last sentence just proved my point.

He's about to be extremely wealthy playing 5 minutes in the 4th Qtr for the Bulls in a blowout loss

Here are my Nate Ament observations.....

1. Don't EVER compare this kid to KD again. They are NOT the same....not even close.

2. He is going pro......but he isn't ready.

3. Remember the great PG that left after his freshman season at UT a few years ago? Yeah....me neither. This is a duplicate of that situation.

4. Kids want to rush their futures. Another year or 2 in college would let this kid grow up physically AND mentally and he'd be so much better prepared....ask Tim Duncan.

5. If he doesn't show up in SOME capacity on Sunday....could be a long game.
