Ament needs at least another year

Some of you just make stuff up. If he gets picked 10th, he makes a guaranteed $12 million the next two years with 2 year options after that, which are almost always picked up because of the low salary number. So, if he’s just a one contract player, he does indeed make more. You guys trying to justify this are just silly. Can’t wait to see him making $15 million in several years.
What if he doesn't get picked 10th? That could very easily happen. He could fall to mid-late first round.

Also, are you capable of not being a smug, know it all *******? These are reasonable discussions about speculative things, I'm sorry you're too small to talk about these things like a grown up and need to feel like you know the future with certainty.

I’m a grown man who discusses things with facts because it’s what I do. People aren’t using facts and sense. He will know where he stands with teams and has an agent to advise him. Just look at mock drafts- do the research. Act like you know what’s going on.

Don’t just opine as to what you feel. This isn’t difficult stuff.

Someone comparing Ament to Kennedy Chandler is nonsense. Not even close to comparable. Sorry that people get their feelings hurt when their opinion is not supported with facts.

I understand what you’re saying. However, I really don’t see another year changing that. He will either develop or he won’t. Another year did not help JJJ. He wasn’t ready and he was never going to be ready.
I think 15-20 more lbs of muscle and another year under Barnes could prepare him better.....I could be wrong

I coached basketball for 14 years. I played both in HS and college. I watch a lot of it. His body is NOT ready for the NBA. His mentality is NOT ready for the NBA. He is very talented, but he is nowhere near NBA ready. I see top 5 picks every year that are very similar to him....and they are often forgotten very quickly. Just 2 years ago, the Hawks drafted Risacher with the #1 pick overall.....and he's on the way out. And he is was lauded as a very similar player as Nate. You can disagree with my takes, but to call it reactionary is foolish and uneducated. I've watched every game and in the biggest moments Nate often disappears. He looked like a deer in headlights yesterday against MIAMI OF OHIO!!!! And also, don't call me uninformed. I feel like I have a pretty good take on college basketball.
I don't give a damn how many years you coached. The comparison to KC is silly. If you watched every game then you would have seen how he turned it on in late January through February before he got hurt. I know he's not going to go in and be a starter day 1, but he can develop faster in that environment. Yeh, much of your post was uninformed

I would love for him to stay too. You do realize he can't spend as much time with Barnes while in college as he can with coaches/specialists in the NBA, right?

Where did you play college ball? What level? P4 or mid majors? JC? NAIA? D3?

Ament definitely will go in 1st round of draft, as of now most mock drafts have Ament between 8-14 being the lowest I've viewed. Could he fall farther in 1st round after combine ? Most definitely . But I much rather see Nate go to a team that's not going to throw him into the fire to begin with.

Would love to see the kid stay one more year and add even more weight. Wish him the best whatever he does. I truly think he could be a top 3 pick if he came back another year. That does matter for his income.

Here are my Nate Ament observations.....

1. Don't EVER compare this kid to KD again. They are NOT the same....not even close.

2. He is going pro......but he isn't ready.

3. Remember the great PG that left after his freshman season at UT a few years ago? Yeah....me neither. This is a duplicate of that situation.

4. Kids want to rush their futures. Another year or 2 in college would let this kid grow up physically AND mentally and he'd be so much better prepared....ask Tim Duncan.

5. If he doesn't show up in SOME capacity on Sunday....could be a long game.

But but but haven't you heard from board experts - - he's a stud. Who needs objectiveness when one can just use "your truth".

Like I said he's a good player but he plays totally like a freshman. One that needs more strength and conditioning. I agree he's gone. I hope he gets drafted top 5 but even as a lottery pick it would be based on what is in front of him instead of what we're seeing currently.

@BernardKingGOAT means well but he is so wrong on a number of topics. Wait to you get the nuance mention which basically means "go with the gut and the feels".

I understand rationale for NBA to take players and throw them in G'league to develop into talent for trades or keep, but in this day and age, where NIL is so significant, the benefits of going pro are less. I mean, it's not like any of our "one and done's" are killing it in NBA... think there's a good chance he'd be a lottery pick if he stays another year for a more significant contract...but that's just wishful thinking, more than likely. I'd really like to see a 2 year rule, but that's not going to happen either.

I think many of the one and dones Calipari had at Kentucky are killing it. They developed once they got to the league. I do think Ament seems to be more slow twitch basketball player than an explosive athlete. Both can work in the NBA.

😂😂😂😂

Still making it up as you go. Because you have no interest in nuance, you can't recognize that using KC as a comparison to NA is totally without nuance.

These "needs another year" takes on NBA first rounded - much less draft picks - are so dumb. Do you guys think the NBA doesn't develop players? You really think college, where there are classes and a thousand distractions is a better place to improve than in the world's premier league whose sole goal is to max out a player's skill & talent? They are pros. They have access to the best strength & conditioning, best competition, best nuitrion, best shot coaches, etc. They get to train everyday. They get to focus.

Ok, let's say he "needs another year" to get his NBA legs... even if that's true, he is better off in the NBA system. The only reasons to come back are if you have a supernatural love for college or if you can't get gauranteed money in a rookie contract. He's getting the money.
Has the NBA developed any of Barnes’s players from Tennessee? Out of all the players we have had drafted, how many are starting or playing every game? One two-time SEC POY?

I need to see some evidence after statement like that. I can think of Springer, Knecht, and Schofield getting regular rotations. They were all physically ready before they went pro and haven’t changed much physically at all. All of our former players look about the same now as when they left TN. I kind of thought maybe James would learn the game better in the pros and get some regular playing time.

Did Bone, Chandler, or Johnson bulk up much?
