Freeze getting hired at Liberty was a massive sigh of relief for our fanbase.

If Freeze had gotten an SEC job, specifically Bama, the fanbase would be in turmoil right now.

Freeze or nothing bunch has gone silent! I wonder why? Just days ago many fans and most NegaVols were clamoring how poor a job we were doing by not getting Freeze and how now bama or Auburn or FSU were going to make us look like idiots by them hiring him and shoving it up our tailpipe! They said we would be considered losers, because teams like the commies are not afraid to hire coaches like Freeze and our admin and Fulmer were idiots for not hiring him. Lots of people on this board threaten to quit donating money and quit attending games if we didn't get him, program would be ruined. There were alot more "sources" out there a few days ago as well.

It's a pain in the rear in today's world for everyone when you are craving news and the only people that really know what is going on are not saying anything, quite as a church mouse. I think the combination of our rabid fanbase spreading rumors, poor reporting from actual reporters who are spreading rumors from their "sources" can't be helping out any at all. I like that Pruitt and Fulmer can keep a secret and avoid unwanted leaks and suspect that will become a valuable tool for our program somewhere down the road! I've guessed at it as much as everyone but I think we as fans can help out a bit by supporting CJP and Fulmer, they're our guys, one of them has bled orange his whole life and one has committed the next however many years of his life to helping restore the program, here's hoping that they pull it off!
Many believed the "insider" reports being circulated by numerous media types. These universities want your fanaticism, allegiance and money, probably in reverse order. Managing the media, in all it's forms, and perceptions created is now part of the day for folks making lots of money to advance and protect the brand of the university. Most fans are having fun but the truth is, collectively, they now have a voice and they are using it, for better or worse. Reflect back one year for the perfect example of fans using their collective "voice" to force a university, by various means, to listen and address their concerns.

Are you rubbing it in their face to try and bring them back out? What you trying to accomplish here?

I disagree that it's amazing that people who wanted Freeze are silent now. What did you want us to do, lash out? There's nothing to gain from rubbing salt in a fresh wound, poking a bear, waking a sleeping lion, or poking a stick through the fence at the dog foaming at the mouth. Oh and look both ways before you cross the street is a good rule of thumb in case you missed that one too. Maybe it will turn out for the best and Pruitt will get the okay to hire a Saban beater and Bama defeater. I'm eager to see who it is because I know whoever it is will give us a better chance than Freeze to beat Bama or else Freeze would have been hired since the pledge to win championships was already made without any asterisks including any "baggage." I want only the best for this admin, coach, and team. Most of the most passionate fans do. It's that desire to win and see them be successful that fuels that passion. I don't want anyone to lose their job, fans, or ticket sales. It's a big hire for all of us so we just have to trust those making the hire have someone who has proven to be a better offensive coordinator than Freeze lined up for the position.
That thing lots of fans call their passion is really just a mechanism to allow them to show their real character when they bitch and moan about everything all of the time, thus the NegaVols term, I don't consider that passion and if it is it's certainly not healthy for the program or it's fans. Not singling you out but the negative nancies are not very hard to anger and they love to anger many on the board. I catch alot ot crap for it but those guys do nothing to help my enjoyment of this board, thus, since they are such jerks I like to let em know that I think they are dummies by calling them out every chance I get. Most of them acted like idiots over Freeze and now they are sitting on their hands until they can find a new negative nancy narrative to follow. I don't call many of them out by name but it doesn't take long to figure out the simple minds of the NegaVols.

Nope, just reminding our fanbase what a cancer the negative nancies are to the Vol nation. Only ones that ever get mad anyway are about 10-15 main NegaVols that like to torment everyone else over every little positive thread.

Wtf does that mean?
It means the only people protected in these contracts are the coaches with their buyouts. People act as if Kendal Briles is untouchable because of a contract extension, that's not true. So contracts are not glue that hold coaches to a school.

You think college coaches care about perception?
I do think people care about what others think of them, yes I do. The folks that go around saying "I don't care what people think of me, I'll do and say what I want" are simple minded folks I feel.

Nobody said untouchable, you act like throwing xtra money at a person with a somewhat shady history is the way to go.

I'm not going to stop calling out the negative nancy NegaVols, it's got nothing to do about learning nothing!
Of course you weren't singling me out because I wasn't a negative nancy or any other label you could use for name-calling. Wanting to hire the best available on the market is not negative at all. Accepting mediocrity would be though. Yes, settling for less than the best is a cancer that will be cut off. I'm eager to see it too (the best) because I know it's what we all want and have been waiting for. You're right. It's got nothing to do about learning nothing but quite a lot to do with learning something. For one so quick to lambaste fans for a desire to win (positive) with that Nega label, the irony must be lost that you were twice as nega in that post.

Don’t know specifically about the “Freeze or bust” guys, but I think aparthy has set in for a lot of fans, so I’d guess that’s a big reason. Only so much of this stuff you can take over and over and over again. I personally went from being very excited about this hire at first to now not caring the least bit. Im spent and honestly don’t care.

Although the OP touched on many issues that seem to get entangled in every coaching search, in my opinion, the main issue was not mentioned. It seems the main problem for me and several others is the simple fact that UT cannot close the deal on the first (and usually the best) candidate. Missing out on the first candidate is bad, but to continue to not close the second, third, or fourth candidate is simply ridiculous making us have to settle and hire a less-qualified "left-over" candidate (which should not be hired in the first place). Also, by this time the media is involved bashing us on the inability to hire a coach or repeatedly saying "another coach has turned down Tennessee yet again making a total of 6 coaches to date." I would simply like to see UT have a pecking-order very short coach list (no more than 3 candidates) for every position and then simply hire one of the three candidates on the list within a few days.
