Minneapolis tries to ensure Trump won't stiff it for $530,000 in rally costs | City Pages
Since Minneapolis has no leverage to get Trump to pay, it told AEG, which manages the Target Center, that it would be responsible for picking up the tab. According to the Star Tribune, AEG reportedly told Trump that he couldn't use the arena unless a check was forthcoming.
This, as you may have expected, produced the twin hallmarks of contemporary politics: outrage and threats of litigation.

Trump responded with a letter from his law firm, Jones Day, saying he'll sue AEG if it backs out of the rally. The contract states that the Secret Service is responsible for security, lawyers contend. But since the agency is not capable of actually providing all that that entails, it appears both parties simply assumed Minneapolis would shoulder the bill.

Campaign promises just like everybody else. There's virtually no way a president can even make a dent in the debt. If there was no new spending at all, in just a few years all the past commitments will exceed what's available for funding. All those cans kicked down the road over the years are coming due, and we can't pay for them.
I don't recall any president, prior to Donald Trump, being so audacious as to pledge elimination of the debt in 8 years. That was just a stupid thing to say, and he had to know that it was impossible. Donald Trump gets a lot of passes for things of that nature, because there are such incredibly low expectations for his promises to begin with. Obama says, "You can keep your doctor." and it's thrown in his face for the rest of his life. Trump says that he will get rid of the debt in 8 years (while both rapidly increasing government spending and cutting taxes), and all we get from the right is, "That is just Trump being Trump."

Y'all believed Obama. No one believed Trump.

What's that make you?

Actually I think the comment and expectations vary depending on your side of the fence. The real answer is to get all the money out of campaigns so it's not just more advertising like marketing types do. Hold politicians to campaign promises, make them squirm, and make them vacate the office if they don't uphold promises ... that's the only way to cure this kind of stupid nonsense. I can almost sympathize with a first term candidate with reasonable promises who hasn't figured out how the opposition works ... almost.

I have this running battle with my wife about advertising claims. I told her she was overloading the new washer when the smell obviously said it couldn't handle what she put in it ... not good enough she had to have a repair guy out. He told her the same thing. She said but it's super heavy duty supposed to take so much; I pointed out that there's always a big void between marketing and reality ... honesty has nothing to do with it.

That is exactly what I was saying in that post. Trump gets a pass because everyone already knew that he was a liar, and nobody takes his promises seriously, anyway. It's the "That is just Trump being Trump." defense.

What does it make you, that you voted for and supported someone, who you already knew didn't have any integrity or credibility?

You mean like virtually every Democrat candidate currently running for POTUS? And let's not forget the alternative to Trump in 2016, Hillary.

Your blatant "what-about-ism" aside... What I'm saying is, that it doesn't make Trump's lie about eliminating the debt in 8 years any better, or somehow justify it, because we already knew that he was prone to lying when he made a pledge that he clearly had no intention of even attempting to keep.

Spare us your faux offended sensibilities.

I'm not offended by anything. I'm just pointing out the absurdity of something which has become apparent from the right: You don't hold Trump's dishonesty against him, because you never trusted him to begin with.

My best guess is that Rudy will not have the guts to repeat those accusations under oath and defend them and his own behavior from Senate Democrat scrutiny.

My guess is there’s going to be several not defending or explaining what they’ve said if they get put under oath . Put Schiff under oat and see what happens ... it’s just political games under somebody has to raise their hand and swear to it lol

And it's more absurd to believe the lies spewed by __________ (insert any politician here) who you do trust, are disappointed by but still revere. Who is the alternative that a Trump supporter would vote for that the Democrats are trotting up as a potential candidate? What exactly do you expect?

I quit being an idealist when I found out there was no Santa Claus or Easter Bunny or Tooth Fairy.

I don't know either, but you can bet we are paying more than our fair share.

This doesn't address cost but any country can overfly ours 42 times a year. The others are limited to between 2 or 4. I'll check out the cost.
You could not possibly be so naive as to think that expense was at the heart of this decision.
Russia is not in compliance, go figure, this is what i found in cost....
OC-135B Open Skies > U.S. Air Force > Fact Sheet Display
Sarcasm as no cost is listed. Take the 32 flights USA did last year, multiple it by 9 staff, thousands of gallons of fuel and this program, which can be done by satellite ( cause we have a few of those) is a tremendous waste of money. That plane alone would cost a ton.
If Russia was in compliance, id have a different thought pattern. Putin has said no to overnights of the Balkins and a few other areas.
Do you think we found China building islands in the middle of shipping lanes with open skies? No,it was satellite that caught that happening.

And more than 98% of the people were able to keep their doctor.
Can you imagine a world where Trump's lies were 98% true?
50% would be a monumental improvement.
