Peyton was in a three way QB race as a freshman, seems like people forget that. I'm sure it because of his greatness since, but he didn't blow anyone away in the begining. Bray was the guy of the future from the get go and once he got a chance he did better than anyone expected. Obviously he won't reach the Peyton level but I don't think there'll be a Cromptonesque drop off either.

I'll be happy if he reaches the Tony Robinson level without the coke.
Tony was the best QB to ever play at Tennessee. Manning was great and has excelled in the pro's but Robinson was the greatest game day QB the Vols have ever had. The '84 Bama game and '85 Auburn games he simply willed the Vols to win.
Casey beat bama as a freshman.
I'd have to give him the better freshman year.
The difference was Bray. In his own way, Tyler Bray lit a fire in the offense that wasn't there most of the year and the results followed. .
EEEEEEEAAAAAASSSSSSSYYYYYYY now. No way Robinson should even be considered in the same class as Manning.

I was at Legion Field when he had his knee destroyed by Cornelius Bennett. He was a great athlete and could do unbelievable things with his legs. He just wasn't that great of a passer. To each his own. Here, let me try again. Try to actually read what I wrote this time before replying thx bye
Bray had the most freshman success passing against those four bad teams of any UT quarterback in the history of college football.
That's all that has to be said.
Even Peyton never had that much success in his last four starts of his first year.
That's a fact.
OK? Even Casey Clausen didn't have the stats against the soft part of his freshman schedule that Bray had. Not even close. Neither did Peyton.
Exactly.
You obviously never saw Robinson play. He was an absolute phenomenon.

Didnt mean to hit a nerve.
You are right about the "stats" Bray had against the last four opponents of the year....He was awsome.
I just put alot of weight on wins. Especially a win over the bammers. So IMO Casey had the better freshman year.

What's crazy to me is the people being critical of him are mostly basing it on the stats coming out of a few practices that they weren't even allowed to see. And the people who did see it (the coaches) don't seem nearly as concerned as they are. Then they turn around and say you can't trust what he did last year because it was against crappy defenses.
So we're supposed to take a positive impression we formed of Bray based on 5 games we actually saw and replace it with a negative impression of him based on a few practices we didn't see and the coaches don't seem too worked up about. My head hurts.
The jury is still out on Bray but I'm sure not going to start worrying over his practice stats. I'll start worrying if he throws a lot of picks in an actual game.
And yes, the love for Tyler Wilson is ridiculous when it comes to the wait and see approach people are taking with Bray. Wilson's predicted success seems to rely on an assumption that Petrino and his system will field a good QB. Chaney has a similar track record but that would require commentators to remember what happened in college football prior to 2007 and that's a lot to ask of these guys.
Here's my take on all the talk about Bray. When was the last time we had a QB to speculate about? We have a guy who simply tore it up last year when he played. He'll take a step forward this year and Chaney will do a good job with him. All of the talking right now has me thinking....maybe TN is relevant again...and that's a good thing.
We all thought Ainge was gonna win a national title for us...didn't work out. After freshman year, he went down
