All Time NBA Players Thread - No Jordan vs. Lebron Debate Allowed

Wonder if some of midrange shooting just has a general luck factor, like a pitcher's H/9. A lot of those numbers have huge variables. You see 5-7% swings in a lot of those examples

I figure team spacing and player health are factors that swing it. For example, if you have a bum ankle for 6 weeks, you're probably settling for more mid-range and then you're maybe not creating as much space or getting as much lift, and that stretch of the season is enough to drop you 5% for the whole year.

I bookmarked this specifically for you btw

Did not know that Barkley led the league in dunks, and I gotta know who else in the modern era was under 6' 9" and led the league.

I forget Kawhi is my favorite player until he starts playing like Kawhi. Russillo doing 15 minutes on him yesterday and BS + Lowe doing basically a full show about him, talking about what I was saying here^.

He played so well Monday that the Clippers overcame an 18-rebound deficit!

Paraphrasing BS, he's the 2nd greatest 'what if' of all time (Bill Walton). He's the best two-way wing in an era where that is the most valuable prototype you can be. He'd easily be a top 15 player all-time without the injuries.

I should've posted this ^ here probably...continuing the convo, Lowe calls this out. 8 players all time with a PER of 24+ in 4000+ playoff minutes:

MJ = 28.6
Lebron = 27.9
Shaq = 26.1
Hakeem = 25.7
Duncan & Kawhi = 24.3
Barkley = 24.2
Durant = 24.0

The wild part is 40% of Kawhi's playoff minutes come from his first 3 years where he was just a role player. Then you factor in that he's rarely felt fully healthy for the last 40% of those playoff minutes. Just nuts.

Barkley opinions are so casual. Kobe? Great defender. Near the top all time, but so not clearly on a Mt. Rushmore type tier. Draymond is probably better than MJ and Rodman, too.

Those guys may have been better on ball defenders at their positions, but the brand of defensive basketball that Draymond plays is "light years" ahead. Defense is harder than ever. He can competently switch every player in the NBA. He's so good, we thought small ball was the future but turned out it doesn't really work for anybody else.

Isn't Malone properly rated actually? Nobody has him in the top 15 but his numbers and longevity have him in that 20-30 range.

He's recently moved out of that range but I used to see him around the top 15 before.

I mean, everybody puts him over Stockton. I take Stockton. Malone is the with Nash as the worst 2-time MVP and that's the big thing that separates them for people. MJ should have won in '97 and '99 was so weak.

Stockton has most assists, steals, and the two highest apg seasons ever and the same two WC titles that Malone has.

I think Zeke is overrated as a player but unquestionably had a "greater" career than Malone in my mind. Two-time champ as best player. What are we doing here?

Two weak MVP's, two WC titles when it was weak, and 3rd on the scoring list. No player would trade Isaiah's career for Malone's career. The bad boy legacy is as one of the most relevant teams in basketball history.
