Let me start this by saying it is a rant. Opinion. Mine. I am a man. I am 33! So I am probably of average age on this board.
I am a Trooper fan. I like the guy. I like the enthusiasm he brings to the fans as well as players. I know that is unpopular with Hat and some others that i respect a LOT but like I said, is just MY opinion. That being said I have a real problem with the state of this program. It is the same problem I see a lot of teams having. I think that when it comes to college football, too often the focus of the game has turned to the individual coaches, and not the storied programs they represent.
I remember not too long ago when it meant something to be a player for the University of _______. Oklahoma, Nebraska, Alabama, Tennessee, Penn State, Georgia. Now it is more important to play for Stoops, Cutcliff, Myer, Saban, Rodriguez. Players would rather have a coaches name on their resume' than a schools. It is hard to think that money and the potential of making it in the NFL is to blame.
We have seen it for years in college basketball. that is the only reason John Calipari recruits kids to Tiger High. You think they really give two squats about the University?? No they know he is a HUGE stepping stone to the NBA. One and done. Two if they are lucky. They major in "ME"-ology. We are starting to get the same thing in the football ranks.
I have never been a fan of the NFL because to me (opinion) there is no passion. But when you see players calling it in, because they don't want to risk an injury, or in a certain player from Tiger High, do not even play against your in state SEC rival, because your NFL stock could greatly suffer if a "Real" defense shut you down. This is becoming laughable. Schools are hiring headhunters to win. Coaches who could give a rip about the school that pays them. I don't know if I have heard Saban utter the word Alabama more than twice. Much less Roll Tide, Or Crimson Tide. It is always we , us, our team. He probably is not even sure what team he is coaching this week.
But to read where we, WE, My beloved TENNESSEE VOLS, have players talking of Transferring if a position coach leaves is insane. NOT THE COORDINATOR that everyone puts up on a pedestal but a POSITION COACH!! That explains why we could not get the young guys to get up for the big games against Florida, Alabama, and Cal!!! They do not care about this school. They do not care about what that helmet represents. If most of us where given the chance to put on that uniform and run out of the "T" we would sell our soul. These little premadonnas have no clue what it means. The majority of them have been babied and coddled and have no sense of pride. I have stood behind them, have cheered, cried and fought for them. But if this is how they show their pride and appreciation, then :salute:. Adiós. But on your way out you yellow bellied coward, how bout writing a check to VASF for the amount of your scholarship this past year. Because They owe me a refund for your sorry tail. I made contributions to aid in the development of student athletes here to promote the GREAT UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE!!!!! Not The NAME ON THE BACK OF YOUR JERSEY YOU UNGRATEFUL PIECE OF TWO FACED, SWINDLING, BLACK MAILING TRASH. Thats what you have done you have blackmailed us into believing you were one of us. Someone who cared about and took pride in wearing the Orange. Not someone that wore it only because it was the color of the jersey they handed to you!!
I NEED A DRINK!
