hole lot of stoopid in this thread. I will try to learn you some...
Mack Brown's 5 year contract states he does not have to be hc to collect his $5M per year. He can roll over into the AD role or some other support role in two years to make room for Muschamp and still get PAID.
Sorry to have to tell you, but one top 10 finish in the last decade does not make Tennesse a top 10 program as someone stated and many on here seem to believe given the potential names being thrown around.
You will not be able to attract a quality head coach like Harbough or Patterson. The best you can hope for is to catch lighting with an up and coming OC/DC (that will leave you like Kiffin) or to take a head coach with baggage like Leach. Organic growth would be the best option for sustainability.
Big Choke Bob is not a good coach or hire. He hasn't been the same since his brother left and turned around Arizona. He's lost 4 of his last 5 to Texas and 4 of his last 5 bowl games. He is the definition of bust. He also hates puppies and doesn't belive in Jesus OR Tebus (if they're different people).
And finally, sure to ruffle some feathers, but the SEC, SEC, SEC superiority is a myth perpetuated by wins over overhyped teams with a knack for choking (OU and tOSU) and the ability to squeek by a true freshman in his first full game (TX). Beating OU in a BCS game is evidence of SEC greatness?...Boise and WV say hi. Utah and WV want to know what happened but congratulate the conference on their BCS wins over Hawaii and Notre Dame. Don't get me wrong, the SEC is certainly the deepest conference and they have won the MNC's they were matched up in, but it would be wrong to think the top SEC teams play at a different level due to recent wins over teams that were overhyped from success early in the decade or were lucky to escape with a win almost after being shredded by a freshman qb and a DC that has it so damn good where he's at that he won't even take the HC job at Rocky Top.
Ok Ghost, I'm going to try and help you out and "learn you some". Obviously you need it. So here it goes, I don't argue Mack Brown's contract so that one you win. A top 10 program is not graded on wins, but where you as a coach think you can take it. Look at our facilities, they are some of the best in the country. Look at our stadium, another one of the best in the country. Look at our fan base, they riot when a coach resigns. I think that may show a little passion for the football program. And yes, we have to recruit from outside the state, but we've proven time and time again that we are capable.
Now let's look at Texas. You have one of the most talent rich states in the country and you all are consistently in the top 10. Let us look at why. You play one tough game a year against OU, I know you will probably say well we play Ohio State, who lost to USC and had a cruise of a schedule the remainder of the season. Wait that's right they lost to an unranked Purdue team, and beat an overrated Oregon team, not very impressive. So if that makes you happy that you are consistently in the Top 10, here's why. NO STRENGTH OF SCHEDULE.
I have no problems with your post about Stoops, he was a coach who was hot when he was young, but looks like he's lost some wind on the national level now. But for you to say the SEC superiority is a myth, well my friend you are sadly mistaken. I didn't realize that 37-21 was barely squeeking by a true freshman QB. And here in the SEC, we play to not give up the big play, ie. the Michael Crabtree td against Texas 2 seasons ago. You can take that underneath crap all day long on an SEC defense, but that's all you are going to get. Our speed, strength, and overall athletic ability of our players is FAR superior of that in the Big 12. The NC game should have proved that. To I even need to mention the demolition of Cincinatti at the hands of Florida. Are we on that level at this second? No. Can we be? Most definitely and have proved it in the past.
And as far as the HC position goes, maybe he won't take it and maybe he will. Maybe he wants to wait four or five years to take over a team he is guaranteed to win 10 games with due to their conference and schedule. He did play at Georgia and is no stranger to the SEC, so maybe that helps us and maybe it doesn't. But don't think you are going to come on our forum and try to "learn us" something, but in all actuality you have nothing to teach. You say the same thing every other un-educated Texas fan says (I'm saying un-educated because your spelling and grammer are quite horrendous). So please go back to the drawing board before you post again. I have no ill feelings towards the Texas program, but that could soon change if ignorant fans keep coming on this board. Tend to yours, as we should to ours and let this situation play out. If we get him great, if not, it's not the end of the world. Enjoy your non-impressive wins against some of the weakest teams in America. I hope that allows you to sleep well at night.
