All the makings for an upset

No one has suggested otherwise. I'm just saying its a late game where there just won't be that same atmosphere -- good, bad, or even hostile -- that the players are accustomed to for getting energy. It would be easy to come out flat. And if LSU does decide to give it all they've got to try to win four and get to the NCAAs ...

Just saying it has that feel to it as a possible upset opportunity for LSU.

You'll probably smoke 'em by 20.

I think they will be very, very tough to beat. Chances are, these guys don't want to fade out of the year altogether without making a final run at it. I made comment earlier about not being able to shut Big Baby down like our last meeting (quoting Pearl). But then, we have weapons like Lofton, Smith squared, Chism, Howell, Tabb and Childress that can counter that. LSU has a few things to worry about as well. Hopefully you're right about us winning by 20. We'll see late night on Thursday!
Go Vols!

LSU's chances of winning the SEC tournament are only marginally better than those of West LaFollette Elementary School or Grambling.

I am persuaded that LSU is a very wild-cardish draw for 1st round. They are perhaps the box of chocolates in this tourney (need I remind you what Mr. Gump said about life and boxes of chocolate?). Also, in keeping with what some even Vol fans have pointed out in this thread, I think we have a fairly heavy monkey to shake off, and I think it is the perfect point on the CBP journey to do it. As a team, I root for them with all my heart in this tournament, but more so as a program, we need to make a very strong showing in the SEC tourney and advance to no less than the sweet 16 come dance time.
Is it asking a lot? It better not be. We NEED this! This program is going to go places with this coach because he doesn't know how to be a loser. At the same time, national respect = recruiting power.

LSU is more likely to be flat. Even if they do come out hungry, I think we're hungrier. I'm a believer in my team - so much so, it's hard for me to be realistic sometimes. I'm the guy who, as a kid, believed the Vols were more likely to win if I was listening to the broadcast on the radio. :jpshakehead: Anyway, I think we're headed for something good this March. Someone pass my orange-tinted glasses and turn up the radio.

May I have this "dance"?

I'd love for the Vols to get another shot at Ole Miss in the second round. Ole Miss is obviously playing better than LSU, but LSU is more scary... hopefully they'll just not show up.

I'm concerned about LSU as well. If they come to play and Davis decides to play as a 4 or 5 and stay in the post instead of as a shooting guard like he did in Knoxville, it'll be tough for the Vols.

That being said, I don't think LSU has the guard play or depth to handle UT if we're on.

UT has a lot to prove in the SEC Tourney with their (our) history. Unfortunately, to just GET to the finals, most likely we'll have to get past UF in the semi's.

There is a reason LSU is the worst seed in the worst division of the conference. They are a poor team. Can they beat UT - sure, it's b-ball and anything can happen.

But, LSU has no point guard. That is a position you can't hide. We don't have a power forward, but CBP hides that and we get away with it.

LSU will rely on getting extremely hot shooting the ball to have any chance. No point guard=poor offensive sets against a pressure defense.

UT wins going away. LSU bench players will be getting on the bus outta town before the final horn even sounds.

Its going to be late when the game starts, very few people in the stands, maybe less than a thousand. And here will be LSU, clinging to NCAA hopes. This is what you might call a trap game for UT.

Beware.

In case you have not been paying any attention to a whole years worth of basketball, every game in the SEC has been a trap game. I don't see the tourney being any different, who puts it all on the line and plays the best basketball will come out on top just like always.

Who would know better than a Gator fan about upsets and trap games? The mighty Gators ran into 3 of them - Vandy, LSU and Tennessee and barely escaped 3 others - Kentucky, Alabama, UAB...:dance2:

Vandy and UT are good bball teams. LSU played its best game of the year and Florida was in a funk.

The one thing Florida gets little credit for this year is that they took everyone's best shot. They had a huge target on their backs the entire season. Still do. I almost want to be a 2 seed at this point.

I find it hard to believe that LSU played their best game of the year this late in the season after they had lost something like 9 out of 10. I would have to hope their best game of the year came somewhere in their 13-3 start, say against Texas A&M or UConn, even though UConn has struggled.

Shot around 65 percent in the first half, if memory serves.

57% from the field. Best statistical shooting game against ole miss in a loss.

If you win tomorrow night like you are supposed to, great. But if LSU decides to make a run it begins with UT and the circumstances for them to make that run are about as good as they can get.

That's my only point.

It wouldn't matter who UT was playing tomorrow night, that team would be primed for a run.

I say you are exactly right. This game is a trap for Tennessee it will be difficult to win, but if The Big Orange wins the first one, they will finally reach the weekend by defeating Ole Miss.

OK no one can ever question you again about being from Tennessee. You know LaFollette and probably know how to say it. :salute:
