My opinion on the hire:
Decent hire, will recruit well, concerns me the guy hasn't led a defense since 1999, and I don't get why he's a better option over CLT.
We're years away from having the personnel to run an effective 3-4.
uhhh fired not retired,:loco:
Please tell my why we are years away from having the personnel to run the 3-4. You actually need few quality DL's to be 2 deep. We have some very good depth at LB and some of the SS's can come up and play in the OLB position in the 3-4.
All the 3-4 is, in reality, is a true 50, with the DE's dropped off to LB depth. Easy scheme to put in place and run. Been there and done that. Much better than the 3-5-3 or the 4-2, or even in my mind the 4-3.
Overall scheme simplified here for the less informed.
Why are people so ignorant. Rhetorical question I guess. If has extensive NFL experience, great recruiter, experience coaching possible best defense in college in who knows how long, very very respected in coaching circles. Oh but Jim Bob in Bucksnor does not understand and thinks it's a bad hire. Please...
Lol. When I googled Sal Sunseri just now, a picture of Randy Shannon popped up.

1. No proof he is a big-time recruiter. He's been at Bama for a year and the Panthers the 6yrs prior to that.
2. Exactly, he's been coaching for 30yrs and not once has anyone else given him the opportunity to be a DC. If he was such an awesome coach wouldn't he had already gotten that opportunity? He has good connections so why hasn't anyone else given this "stud recruiter" a position with more responsibility than coaching the OLB's?

Wrong you actually need more DT's because the DE's in a 3-4 are basically converted DT's. This is how I understand anyways.
Dont want to get into an X's and O's argument, but if I have a 4 man front, I need 8 quality players to give me depth. In a 3 man front I need 6. They can be a combination of DT's and DE's. It all depends on the style of attack you want. Those front three have to own the LOS and give the LB;s free reign to run to the football. At least that is the way I have ran the thing in the past.
I understand exactly what you meant. Let me explain here, how often do schools fire a coach and then make their OC or DC the head coach? It happens, yes, but very rarely. I guess you believe Dooley is so dumb he would risk his job by hiring "lesser" assistant coaches? That'd be incredibly foolish on his or any one's part, just doesn't make sense.
Id say so. He has been at high profile jobs his whole career. No one can say for sure and if they do they are lying, but his resume is awesome.
