Alexis Johnson at practice

Well according to Bob Shoop he might be ready for the season opener. That is a pretty big discrepancy between not being ready and having to redshirt.

Or they may feel tempted to test him against a lesser opponent?
Opposed to say, VTech or Florida.

I think a lot of you don't realize how bad his injury was...

Anyone who hasn't seen or doesn't remember his injury, check it out on YouTube. It was a bad injury, indeed! What kills me is that his injury came from a cheap shot against Georgia!

Shoop said that literally 20 mins AFTER I posted that.

And its the first indication of a possible time table.

Butch also said Maggit might play in the Oregon game.

Hmmm....

Not the first indication.
Shoop said a couple of weeks ago (on Finebaum) that he was feeling good about having Shy by the beginning of the season.

No I'm not.

I have a good memory, and Butch was saying the exact same things about Curt Maggit at the beginning of 2013.
They want to push him as much as possdible, but Butch is not a great risk taker. Here's the main reason i feel he is going to redshirt.

NO TIMETABLE HAS BEEN GIVEN.

Chance Hall just had surgery... 4- 6 weeks.

Tuttle is a big dude. More pressure on his body. You gotta take your time. He had a very bad injury.

Hes going to redshirt.

Always amusing when people state their opinion as fact.
The reality is that you do not know and are just speculating.
We're trying to win a championship and we are very thin at DT. I would imagine that if Tuttle or Johnson can give us half a season or more they will play because we need them.
But that of course is just my opinion

Oh, I am sorry you are right! I forgot that LittleVol of VN is an insider and knows more about his injury then Bob Shoop and the coaching staff....

But honestly, how can you all say the staff is just talking him up? Based on what? To scare the powerhouse App State? I see no purpose behind them lying, since when has Butch ever given us any reason to have higher expectations than he has for the team itself? I don't think he would allow Shoop to get out there and give blatantly false information for no reason.

Tuttle will not redshirt. He won't be here 5 years. No need to redshirt him.

Shy has had close to a year to rehab. Yes, was a bad injury but claiming he will definitely RS is an uneducated guess.

I doubt there would be mention of his return if that were the case...

Don't waste your time arguing with this little kid. I've tried and it's a waste.

Alexis Johnson will ultimately redshirt. Trust me, I just know these things.

This statement right here show's how much you follow recruiting. Kmac was not an early enrollee and did not go through spring practice. He didn't see the playbook until fall camp. In addition he was 40 lbs overweight. He even said in the last two weeks, than last year he couldn't make it through half a practice without being gassed. Why is everyone ignoring how the coaches operate? How many true freshman have we played in the last 3 years because we NEEDED them to. Last year, Coach Strip lost Kurt Maggitt, Shy Tuttle, Danny O for 2 games and Kyle Phillips. We lost games last year because our D line was redlining in the 4th quarter, they didn't have back ups.

I don't understand how anyone could make a argument that we just "eh, he couldn't really contribute until mid way through the season". Oh you mean the part where we play Texas A&M away, Bama, South Carolina away and later potentially the SEC Championship/playoffs? Sure, he could be a bust once he plays against SEC talent. But he could be a stud. If you want to reference Blair as a bust then go ahead. Every other top school would have been wrong about his as well. We have much better successes with JUCO players than failures. Also, JUCO aren't meant to redshirt. They're supposed to be able to get in there right away. That's basically the point of JUCO, it's like going from being on the freshman team (high school) to JV, then to varsity (I'm not dumb I know grades sometimes play a factor).

1. Apologies, forgot KMac didn't enroll until summer

2. Alexis is clearly ready to go today, nothing to see here. Why, despite being on his own since February, he's clearly in every bit as good of shape as anybody in the team, probably much better since he's a seasoned JUCO who was brought here to step in day 1. Not only do I expect him to start, I'm not sure why he wasn't on all the Preseason All-SEC teams. It's an outrage why doofuses like me, who clearly don't follow recruiting, can't see this.

3. I never said anything about Blair, that was LWS

Name calling?

And I'm the kid?

And to be honest i don't even recall replying to anything you've ever written...

I don't know who you are.

lol maybe I should have come off as less accusatory. I mentioned Blair because he's one of the few JUCO busts we've had. Guys like Kamara, Justin Martin, Patterson, Von Pearson, Owen Williams (the list goes on) came in and contributed right away. We all expect Kongbo to do big things, and the only advantage over Johnson as far as conditioning goes is he had the 2-3 weeks of fall camp. Given that Johnson has a great deal more experience than Kongbo (and likely knows how to stay in halfway decent football shape) does playing the sport, it's not far fetched to think that Johnson could be ready to contribute by the Florida or the Georgia game.

It only makes sense to try to bring him along so he could help out the rest of the DTs. Hypothetically, let's say he started playing by the UGA game at the latest. That's over 5 weeks away. Give him a few snaps in those games (UGA-Bama) then let him get significant playing time on the last half of the schedule against our weaker opponents. By the time (if all goes well) the SEC championship comes around, he would be available to be a reliable 2nd-3rd string guy.

RTI just tweeted that Johnson is in full pads today. Great news!

From a post in the RF:

"Alexis Johnson was at practice and from watching him go through drills he's pretty rusty. He will need to lose some weight to be ready to help and while they will try and get him up to speed as quickly as possible I think it's anyone's guess as to when he will be back.

We will ask Butch tomorrow if there's a target date to that."

In others words.. Be ready for October

I guess we will see how serious he is at being a part of the team by the work he starts putting in. Im glad he's cleared and hope that he can make a push for being an impact player in the near future.

Vickers, O'Brien, and Picou can all get some quality reps in the first three games. It's not outlandish to think Johnson can be ready for the UF game

Dude will definitely play. Chance Hall goes down with surgery today and we're scrambling for a back up. What if, God forbid, One of the starting DTs gets hurt? We'd be screwed. "We don't face run heavy teams". I'm not going to quote the person that said that but I'm sorry we're going to play Bo Scarborough, Sony Michel, Nick Chubb, Keith Ford at A&M, and possibly Fortnette if we get in the title game and Bama doesn't.

Also, why the hell are we worried about his conditioning if everyone is like "well Tuttle should be good by the Florida game". So we're banking on a guy (love Tuttle, don't get it twisted) who spent last October-April/May in a boot? You really think that Johnson, who is on campus, going to a university on an athletic scholarship, is just going to get fat and sit around all day? Absolutely not. Also, there's no rule that a player can't play if he has a misdemeanor on his record. He and Tuttle will debut at the Ohio game bank on it. Let's remember that behind Kmac Vickers Obrien and Tuttle all we have that have had game exp is Picou. Alexis will play ASAP.

Sounds like he is about 2 months behind, double up and he will be ready by the Ohio game. Anything more than that and he will be back sooner.

So, are you guys still convinced he will be able to work himself into playing condition? Appears he wasn't hard at work during his suspension.
