Heupel traveled to Alabama on Tuesday, along with some of the Vols' assistant coaches, to check on a handful of targets. Heupel, defensive coordinator Tim Banks and defensive backs coach Willie Martinez stopped at Oxford (Ala.) High School to see Florida safety commitment Miguel Mitchell, one of the Vols' remaining targets in the 2022 class.

The 6-foot-1, 205-pound Mitchell received a scholarship offer from Tennessee on Jan. 6 and narrowed his focus to Florida and the Vols before committing to the Gators on Jan. 16, the final day of his official visit to Gainesville, Fla. But Tennessee has continued to pursue him in hopes of convincing him to take his previously scheduled official visit to Knoxville this weekend.
