I think AU has made it a requirement to to keep Williams on staff or atleast that is what I read they did when they hired Harsin.

Well that may further limit their pool of coaches as well.

Maybe but Williams is one hell of an RB coach to have on staff so I don’t know how many could/would refuse.

It would be a huge red flag to me. Meddling at it's finest.

I don't see how any big time hire(that's what I'm sure they're after) would be ok with being told who to hire on their staff.

If true, just another reason I think you have to be a fool to take that job.

We kinda did the same thing with RG though

The barners will hire a proven coach this time. Freeze or Kiffin would be my guess, and neither of those two will burn good commits.

Freeze is an interesting case. All comes down to what his aspirations are. He's very comfortable at Liberty and has the chance to stay there for a long time and help a team grow from FCS to Independent FBS to a G5 school in C-USA next year. He has a ton of resources at LU and very low expectations. You could argue that, with an expanded playoff, his path to the CFP is easier as a G5 at Liberty than at Auburn. Can Liberty pay what big time SEC schools can pay? No. But they can pay more than most people would think. Hugh's currently making $5/yr over the next 8 and if he keeps winning and building the program, that number will keep climbing.

I'm not saying he doesn't take the Auburn job. He very well may. But this isn't the equivalent of going after the coach at your typical G5 school.

Freeze is an arrogant dork. He got caught doing bad things at Ole Miss and attempted to push the blame onto Houston Nutt. Not only was he cheating and buying players, but the fake bible beater was ringing up hookers. And not the Hendon kind.

This guy was made for this offense. Don’t understand how uga with their 5 5star rbs on roster is coming out of the blue for him and we’re not seemingly getting the look.

If Auburn really wanted to win, they would hire Freeze and put a large “moral” payout clause in his contract.
