Just a heads up. I've been talking to some of AJ's friends & they said that his nickname that he's been going by is "The Beast" & that he is living up to the nickname.

Can't wait to see The Beast win the East.

Considering how well he and Maggitt played last year, this year's starting LBs have the potential to be scary good.

I've met the guy, he's actually really calm and actually pretty cool. I wouldn't really call call him a beast, more like a gentle beast lol

They were well below average last year--slow to react and with countless missed assignments. I think they will improve, but it is silly to say they were good. Hopefully they have the potential to be at SEC level this year. Apparently you people have forgotten what good football looks like.

Were they all conference? No, but both being true freshmen starting in the SEC, its unfair to say they were below average.

That's absurd - they were freshmen and they played better than alot of sophmores and juniors around the league. AJ may have been the best player we got singned in that class.

^Well played sir...Maggit and Johnson will only be sophomores this year. However, last year we had one of the worse linebacking corps in the sec. Playing at an average sec level would be an improvement.

They played the way good prospects should play as freshmen starting in the SEC. No better and no worse. I think they will be the most improved unit on the team this year. But it is crazy to say they were "good" last year.

In comparison to the rest of the league's LBs, yes, they were below average. I realize they were freshman, which is why there is reason for some optimism.

Dind-ding-ding. Exactly. In this league most freshmen don't play. A team with a lot of freshmen All-SEC is often a team with a losing record.

We are comparing these guys to SEC talent. Not the other freshmen around the league that couldn't crack the starting lineup due to depth. And I don't see a Dont'a Hightower on this roster.

But you guys are missing my overall point about how our LBs need to work on being SEC average before they work on being "scary good."

Did you expect them to play like All-Americans? Come on, man. I didn't read all the other responses below your post, but I think that's pretty far-fetched to say they were below-average, especially with what this team had to work with (and with Wilcox as DC).

So if you're comparing them to the rest of the league, which you stated are usually not freshmen, then they are anything but average or below. They are playing well above where they should be at this point. jmo

With Lathers back this unit should be pretty good,,, They missed LATHERS last year and it showed, :good!:

AJ and Maggitt were excellent as FRESHMEN. All FRESHMEN SEC, I believe. They played like freshmen at times. They will get better and possibly be among the best LBs in the SEC, but not last year.

Still think we have a lot of questions at LB outside of Maggitt, Lathers and AJ. Maybe I'm missing something but I'm both excited and concerned about this group.
