AJ Johnson/Michael Williams Case (merged)

Anyone else feel like this is Michael Williams and AJ was unfortunately topped into it? I just have that feeling. Call it denial but he's going to be proven guilty before I'll buy it.
If he didn't play for U.T., what would you think? If he was just another 22 year old who lived at Island Home, Jefferson, Five Points, Lonsdale , etc. and you had never heard his name, what would you think?

I would think he's innocent until proven guilty... Is that what you were looking for?

Makes perfect sense. Starting Middle Linebackers would never start something like this.

So it's the old innocent-until-proven-guilty-unless-you're-not-a-major-player-in-which-case-it's-all-your-fault approach is it?

Watching the nightly news in Chatt and they just said that AJ hasn't been charged yet. No clue why they are saying that when everyone else seems to be reporting both have been charged

hopefully this **** will move quickly so that these girls will have justice, these young men can move on, and so can this football team...no matter the outcome.

Not surprised and pleased to agree that coach did the right thing by jettisoning these two hope now to never have t see one of these fine men in the nfl

You do law, statistics AND a dad at the same time?? You are a god!!

I learned from the Ghostbusters that if someone asks if you're a god, you say yes!

So, thank you. ;)

Now, can you tell that to my wife? I'm sure she'd tell you that a jack of many trades is a master of none.

I was holding out hope until the subpoena for DNA . In my mind they only do that if they have evidence a rape occurred and want to confirm the semen recovered when doing the rape kit does in fact incriminate AJ and Mike Williams . I can't imagine a DA taking a "he said she said " case to court . That would be a waste of time .

Plus , this is real life, not CSI . In real life , when someone gets indicted they almost always are guilty , very high conviction rates

Obviously , I could be very wrong . I hope I am

Such a great movie.

Sometimes I open my refrigerator and laugh thinking about "Zuuuuuuuuul."

I also frequently refer to people as either gatekeeper or keymaster. Lol

Haha that's awesome. You just became my favorite poster.

I used to give girls all the lines that Venkman gives Dana the first time he goes to her apartment. His whole bit on all I have is my work and I'll prove myself to you.

No. Different story. Girl at Colombia University claimed a guy raped her. Reported it to school and title IX. Neither pursued charges. She proceeded to carry her mattress around campus. All kinds of press about her. Gets invited to the state of Union etc etc. 2 more people get involved. One an ex of the guy who filed a complaint after talking with mattress girl and the other a member of the coed frat he was in who accused him of following her upstairs and groping and trying to kiss her. She came forward after he had already been named by Matress girl. All charges by the schools "gender enforcement" and title IX were dismissed.
Columbia Student: I Didn

I read the story and there's no way to know who is telling the truth. Even the Daily Beast concluded with that.

"It is likely that some facts in this case will never be known. Nungesser’s feminist upbringing does not make him incapable of sexual assault, and his former girlfriend’s reported psychological problems prior to their relationship do not mean that he did not abuse her. The reported interaction between Nungesser’s alleged victims does not necessarily prove that they unduly influenced each other’s stories."

As I mentioned earlier, you can also look at it this way: 100% of defendants acquitted at trial had been indicted by a grand jury* (so for a certain population the failure rate is absolute).

*Unless defendant waived the GJ proceedings.

I should change my signature line to "back off man, I'm a scientist."

True , but that's a small percentage of defendants .

I don't know those numbers but it's important to remember many indictments don't go to trial. Some are plead out. Some are dropped. In fact, I'd say that the minority of cases see trial after an indictment, but I can't back that up with links.

I've done a lot of reading about this over the years. All of the stories, no matter the outcome, are terrible. From Duke, to Virginia, to BYU, to Vanderbilt, to this...

And, good statistics are all over the place making conclusions hard to reach. One of the more reasoned studies I've read stated that while many rapes on college campuses go unreported, and many that are cant be prosecuted because its he said she said with no other evidence, that false accusations for these sorts of crimes are about 2x higher than any other violent crime (still a relatively low number, but high in comparison).

It's like a puzzle I just can't put together.

I'm so freaking conflicted about this. I love the football player aj. Like few others. But I've got a daughter...and I live her more than life. Something terrible happening to her keeps me up at night worrying

AJ Johnson was my 9 year old son's favorite player, by far. So I really appreciated AJ giving me an opportunity to explain rape to my boy. Neither of us were ready for it.
