Ainge's Apology

since when is a 2 TD game amazing? that's average at best. And the fact that he gave one back only hurts his stats even more.

Not amazing at all - just saying that it's a bit misleading to focus only on the 2 INTs.

He didn't have a great game or even a good one by his standards. But, his positive play in the game is the reason we had the lead in the first place.

i just don't know. Jones and Foster did most of the work for the first TD. Ainge was just there to finish it off. He played his typical mistake free, conservative ball until the end. As stated many times previously I firmly believe in the fact that our main wrs can't get separation deep so i'm not sure it's always his fault we are that conservative. I do wish there was some point where he could look at the D in front of him and call a play he wanted to. Instead he always had to look to the sidelines and get what Cut wanted from what he saw in the booth.

Obviously, Cut has a better overall view in the booth, but if Ainge could've ever got the confidence to make his own audibles, I think things could have changed for the better.

Ainge is nowhere near the 2nd best QB to play here.

Seriously. How can you say he is the 2nd best when all he ever won was...

wait...

NOTHING.

I cant understand why some people are starting to defend EA and say it wasnt his fault. Go and look at the replays one more time. He is a senior QB he cannot make either of those throws. EA is a choke artist and thats all he'll ever be.

You can say "well, its the coaches fault because we should have been running the ball."

The coaches didnt throw those balls.

He plays conservative all season and plays realtively mistake-free, and then when its time to step up and stop playing conservative - he cant get it done.

Good riddance.

the shots at players are just baffling (and very disappointing) to me. We should be above this

Not all Ainge's fault. Some people need to question why Hancock stands there looking like his feet are planted in cement on the pick 6. Team game.

it's not baffling to me, but i am a little disappointed at it. we all know what happened, we saw it.

as angry as i was about the missed fg's and int's, i feel equally as bad for the players that went thru it.

Others need to question why Ainge didnt throw it to the receiver sprinting down the middle of the field uncovered.

We all know what happened. What do you want to do? Shoot him or something? He was just trying to make a play and he failed. It happens. Give the guy a break. He feels a lot worse about it than you do.

It is difficult to assess EA's legacy after such a disappointing game. Also, I think these boards are a fitting place to rip into a player if you want. He nor his mother are going to read it, so it is better here than to his face. It can be therapeutic to rip into a player after a tough loss.

One thing I like about these boards is seeing all these people who have probably never played and couldn't if they wanted to totally cut down and diss these kids. I'm sure VolinthaATL would have made all the right reads and lead us to glory this year. Get a grip. Ainge will be remembered for a lot more than that game. Those who talk about Ainge like he was a lame QB are ignorant. Simple as that.

Your right. He will be remembered for being a lame quarterback....plain and simple. I hope he proves me wrong in the bowl game but he's had 4 years to do that and hasn't yet. The only reason he looks adequate is because we've had years of clown feet Clausen. Rick had heart at least!! Give me Andy Kelly anyday bud......

Amen on Andy Kelly.....He would throw the long ball when told not to do so....the only game he played poorly in was the AL game when we had a chance to go to No 1...and lost 6-3....Worst game of his career...

I want to thank Erik Ainge for his years at Tennessee. I hope that he can patch up his legacy and start a tradition of UT going to Bowl games and Winning! Something else we haven't done in awhile.

Injuries, Brent Scheaffer, and a Broken Pinkie unfortunatley will be the memories of Ainge's career at Tennessee. I wish I knew what caused our senior quarterback, who was sacked fewer times than any quarterback in the nation, to be so jittery in the pocket. 3/4 of the season saw Ainge make big plays but to the credit of our Young receivers. He consistantly threw low, high or behind our receivers and they were able to make the catch. (Austin Rogers sticks out as an exception, way to many dropped passes)

For the most part though as I reflected on this season, i saw a team grow and get better. Our young receivers and Defensive backs matured and are playing very good football. Our Offensive line is probably the best pass blocking line we've had. Our backs stepped up and did the best they could with our inabilities to run block. I think we over achieved and I also think that Phil, David, and John showed that if given time they can coach the hell out of some talent. From the start of the season to the SEC CG this team consistantly got better. The blow out losses and the second half melt downs are indicative of a freshman laiden team. Next year looks to be a great year for the Vols. Our next in line OB's will have alot talent to work with, Eric Berry will be Back and the Vols, The BIG ORANGE, Smokie, The Pride of the Southland, the crowds at Neyland, the fans, Vol Navy, etc. should be damn proud!

Way to guy's and beat the hell out of the Cheese Boys of Wisconson.

Not to rip players but...

He didn't play well at all against Virginia in the SugarBowl. I remember several INT's in that game. Tony Thompson and Greg Amsler (if I remember right) were the keys to that game.

I remember a game ending INT against Notre Dame as well.

My point? Everyone remembers a player in their own way. I still think Kelly was a good QB for the Vols and I'll think the same about EA when I look back on his career 10 years later...

Ainge is arguably the second greatest QB to play for the Vols. It's a shame that this game is what he'll be remembered for.

Arguably, yes, if you are a total moron. Hope Eric enjoys his eventual future as a McDonald's restaraunt manager.

I think it's a stretch, but not so much of a stretch that you need to flame anybody or bash a player.
