I want to thank Erik Ainge for his years at Tennessee. I hope that he can patch up his legacy and start a tradition of UT going to Bowl games and Winning! Something else we haven't done in awhile.
Injuries, Brent Scheaffer, and a Broken Pinkie unfortunatley will be the memories of Ainge's career at Tennessee. I wish I knew what caused our senior quarterback, who was sacked fewer times than any quarterback in the nation, to be so jittery in the pocket. 3/4 of the season saw Ainge make big plays but to the credit of our Young receivers. He consistantly threw low, high or behind our receivers and they were able to make the catch. (Austin Rogers sticks out as an exception, way to many dropped passes)
For the most part though as I reflected on this season, i saw a team grow and get better. Our young receivers and Defensive backs matured and are playing very good football. Our Offensive line is probably the best pass blocking line we've had. Our backs stepped up and did the best they could with our inabilities to run block. I think we over achieved and I also think that Phil, David, and John showed that if given time they can coach the hell out of some talent. From the start of the season to the SEC CG this team consistantly got better. The blow out losses and the second half melt downs are indicative of a freshman laiden team. Next year looks to be a great year for the Vols. Our next in line OB's will have alot talent to work with, Eric Berry will be Back and the Vols, The BIG ORANGE, Smokie, The Pride of the Southland, the crowds at Neyland, the fans, Vol Navy, etc. should be damn proud!
Way to guy's and beat the hell out of the Cheese Boys of Wisconson.
