Ainge Today - getting excited

There's one aspect thats not getting much mention of late and one of the reasons, (imo), for UT's failures when it comes to coaches the past 12-15 years. Communication between the administration and athletic dept.
Although, like many posters, I didn't care too much for the way UT "self-reported" it's violations, Plowman and Boyd hit a homerun with the hiring of D.White as AD. This has to be one of the best AD's in all the land based off his track record. He was somewhat limited in this past HCing hire and Heupel could bring UT back to being able to compete with anybody but if CJH can't I think our AD will see that it get's taken care of. I can't help but think that UT sports is on it's way up in all sports.

Agree

That's *really* near where my father and I sit in X2. It's a pretty darn good vantage point; I am sure y'all will enjoy it. Here's hoping we have plenty of (positive) reasons to make some noise this year.

We sat there a few times in ‘19. They are great seats. Decided to buy the whole lot this season. Only one we will miss will be UGA bc we will be on vacation.

6 and 6 will seem like were finally headed in the right direction. Any record better than that Heupel should be in the coach of the year running award category. Wait and see for me if Milton is the man or if were vastly improved over last season.

How so?

6-6 with a 2-6 conference record, would actually be slightly worse than going 3-7 in 2020 in an all-SEC schedule.

I think it’s more so based on expected finish of 5-7 by most analysts. We lost a lot of talent from last year’s team despite our optimism

Even so, going 6-6 with our only SEC wins being over USCe and Vandy, wouldn't give any indication to the whether or not Heupel is making progress in year one.

You can call me “Missouri”. Show me. We do this to ourselves every. single. year. after a few decent practices, a scrimmage against ourselves and an article or two with a half way positive spin. We have SOME talent, we are not “loaded”. Whether or not any flashes of good play on the practice field actually transfers to the playing field against SEC competition remains to be seen and is in no way certain.

Listen to Ainge today starting at 12 minute mark. He watched all of practice this weekend and he’s super excited about the team

- Milton is the best looking QB he’s ever seen here at TN
- teammates are holding each other accountable and picking each other up
- feels better about depth at all positions…”they all look the part”
- competition is great…players fighting each other then picking each other up
- this is going to be the easiest TN team to root for in his lifetime
- coaches are hard and intense but patient. They’re actually teaching
- he’s tempering his expectations for Milton but when he throws it’s not normal. Every single human out there watches him when he throws
- only concern for Milton is when he throws a 6 yard slant it might go off the WR hands and to the other team
- Milton threw a ball to Hyatt 65 yards in air right in bread basket…the DB had stopped (Willy didn’t like that) because it was so far

- said as he’s learned more he understands why those players transferred to OK…he said Pruitt personally told individuals they were Effing terrible. That’s just one example of the things Pruitt said
- he’s very impressed with how Heupel is building this team up but simultaneously putting more demands on them
- not at 8-4 yet but trending that direction, but regardless they’re doing it all the right way…team is going to be fun to root for

Dang it!!! I told myself I would not get too high on this team. That I would set low expectations.

Welp.

This team is talented. The coaches know how to coach. The offense will be fast and fun - kinda like when Bray used to sling it all over the yard, but more consistent in this offense.

I just don't want to be hurt again. UGH.

I’m not all in on thinking the roster is loaded, but with the talent we lost, they only won 3 games, and none made SEC 1st or 2nd team. That kind of talent can be replaced. Whether or not it happens remains to be seen. However I do think the coaching stunk the last few years. I think CJH has brought the team together, trusting his plan, but can he and his coaches do the Xs & Os remain to be seen. Lots of fine points go into building a ”team” first and then executing on the field.

Show me on the football field, that's all I ask.

JG had talent but unfortunately he had horrible coaching.
No amount of coaching could fix what was wrong with jg. He was a good thrower, but his ability to process information was not fast enough to play the college game. That’s why he looked so good in practice and camps, but he just couldn’t do it games.

OR a lot of us just call it like it is and refuse to continue to baby adults. When the players are awful they’re awful. Can’t expect everyone to be all roses and sunshine when those same adults call out the fans…

Who said anything about babying them

Ok so a couple of points to add. Burrow left OSU while they were in the playoffs already with a starter. Fields left UGA with Fromm at the helm, also a playoff Qb. But yeah I agree sometimes a change is what is needed. Milton is talented, hes big and athletic. Howitzer for an arm. I hope the dude balls out and wins all the accolades because that means we were pretty good in most cases. Also agree that Heupel has a good track record for developing Qbs. All that said go Vols. Sept.2 is around the corner
TBH Fields was better then Fromm, & Burrow was better then Haskins. OSU & UGA were playoff teams with or without Fromm & Haskins
