Ainge Today - getting excited

Lol doesn’t have the talent ?? We have plenty of talent the only position where talent is a question is LB and I think they will continue to grow as a unit… talent has never ever been an issue in all my years of watching UT football only coaching and a losing culture…

You think our roster compares to UGA, Bama, UF, LSU, Auburn, Texas AM? Our OL is solid or should be so I'll give you that. Our best RB transferred and we have two unproven players that we know nothing about. We have bandaids at QB unless Heupel can actually develop one of these guys. Our WRs are mid tier compared to the rest of the SEC - possibly above average?

Our Dline hasn't been good since Barnett left and it wasn't good when he arrived. Our secondary is atrocious. Our LBs scare the hell out of me and even if we find some guys that can play, our depth at LB will hurt us.

Seriously though, why so optimistic BoroVol? Do you have info I don't? I admit I haven't been around the FF in a while and I'm open to being convinced.

Um no it’s not. It’s a former TN QB giving his opinion. Nothing more. He likes what he sees. I guess he should be like some of you all on here. Just doom and gloom.

Oh, don’t mistake me for a pessimist. I’m going to games, but history has taught me to enter into game weekends with ZERO expectations.

I’ve found that it makes life a lot happier, and I can actually enjoy being back on campus with friends. I’m not going back to assuming we’ll win any game.

Oddly enough, I start a round of golf with the same mindset. It’s my secret weapon.

I wish “memory posts” from previous years would pop up on Volnation. This time last year you were blind or stupid if you couldn’t see JG was going to have a breakout year under Chaney, and the progress/development Pruitt’s hard-nosed coaching had brought to UT was undeniable

Milton has as much talent as any Qb in the nation if he can become consistent he will be very good in the ncaa

Rb I’m not worried about losing Gray at all at some point every good or great Rb was unproven we have many many body types and rb types in that room evans and small have been getting rave reviews as a nice 1-2 combo small showed flashes last year as the 3rd guy… we will be good at Rb

OL is solid they are finally being coached well

Wr this is where I disagree with you the most we have more speed at the Wr position than we’ve had in a long long time 3 legit 4.3 guys in Velus Hyatt and Payton… Calloway is silky smooth… Tillman is a big physical wr who has been dominating 50/50 balls and showed a small flash last year vs A&M… I think where we are disagreeing on is talent vs experience… we don’t have much experience but we have a really good amount of talent with legit coaching and no micromanaging from the head coach…

DL we have some big big athletic bodies with experience and the best DL coach in the nation after the first scrimmage they dominated the OL early… Byron young is a grown man and will have a breakout season.. baron is a young star in the making played well as a freshman last year and Roman Harrison is a dog that plays very hard and can continue to get better under Garner…

Dbs are another group with 3-4 years of experience at every position with quality depth added in from the portal who could push for starting time… defense is much more simple im not even huge on recruiting rankings but just look at UT we consistently are around 10-20 at worst on most years of course we are not upper echelon elite but outside of bama UGA A&M no other rosters make me feel like they are head and shoulders better UF LSU are better but not by much and we can definitely play with them…just watch this year if Heupel is a average coach he will go 6-6 if he is a good coach we will see 8-4 if he his great 9-3 to 10-2 is possible but that’s unlikely either way but there is only 2 teams who I look at their roster and say they are too much… bama and UGA… this is the best organized schedule we’ve had in a long time we don’t have that stretch of UGA UF and bama in a 4 game stretch no more only one tough OOC game which is Pitt… and don’t mention GSU heup proved at UCF that he will have his teams ready to play Pruitt could not handle all the responsibilities that came with being a head coach heup by all accounts has been a much much better CEO…

@VFL-82-JP , check my handle.

That’s the recent record I’m citing. I’m UTK class of ‘98!
Oh, I'm sorry friend, I had you confused for one of our more frequent trolls, whose latest screen name is slightly similar to yours. My bad! I'll take the troll tag off my earlier post lol. Sorry again.

I'm not going to argue the potential. I agree that there is a high ceiling, but that's not my argument. I'm talking about expectations based on what we know. I'm done with the "what if" game and hoping our RBs show out, hoping Heupel improves QB play, hoping our DL improves with better coaching, hoping our secondary can put a season together with all of their experience.

I'm talking about legit talent/experience (and we can't just say they're talented when they've only really played against HS competition - even if they've played in a few SEC games in a limited role), and we just have too many unproven players out there. If we didn't have BG, Vandy, USA and Tn Tech on our schedule we would likely be on the wrong side of 6-6. Maybe we win 3 conference games including Vandy. Maybe we beat Pitt. I just see a lot of question marks brother.

At the end of the day we'll both be happy if you're right and we'll both be let down if I'm right. We're in this together.

I don’t think it’s fair to say Heupel is good, bad or great based off one year. Having said that, 7 wins or more will be exceptional

I got my season tickets for the first time this year bc I couldn’t pass up the price. X2, R34.

Really excited to see this offense. 100 yr anniversary, let’s hope Ainge is right

That's *really* near where my father and I sit in X2. It's a pretty darn good vantage point; I am sure y'all will enjoy it. Here's hoping we have plenty of (positive) reasons to make some noise this year.

You could have coached Andrew Luck. Harbaugh didn't make Andrew Luck. Andrew Luck made Harbaugh.
No one had an example and now it doesn’t matter what the original point was. 😏

Encouraging report, thanks for the recap.

I have a sneaking suspicion that this will be a really fun team to watch. And while fun and entertaining might not immediately translate into as many wins as we'd like, it's progress.
Just seeing a team that knows what it is trying to do on the field would be a huge improvement over the Bald One

6 and 6 will seem like were finally headed in the right direction. Any record better than that Heupel should be in the coach of the year running award category. Wait and see for me if Milton is the man or if were vastly improved over last season.
