Ainge Today - getting excited

it wouldn’t surprise me if he’s doing well but I’ve never heard a former QB not say the same things. They always want the position to do well.

Ease into expectation don’t drown in them.

Yep, we do and then we worry about stupid things like Dooley leaving us for Georgia or Butch leaving us for Michigan or Pruitt for Bama when Saban retires.

Eternal optimism springs every time we get a new coach!

Wow, I'd forgotten that but everything you said has been spouted on here. Temper everyone.

Seriously, how many camp QB’s flame out because they’re a fish out of water when it comes to college level defenses?

Plus, if Milton was so great, why didn’t he light it up at his previous school? I hope he kicks ass, but let’s see him play a game before crowning him the Heisman.

The next time "QB Guru" Harbaugh actually makes a talented QB better will be the first time. You can't name one instance when he has. The guy is so overrated.

It’s called being a mature adult. I think we all should do the same but than again that might be asking too much for some of you to be respectable to college kids

OR a lot of us just call it like it is and refuse to continue to baby adults. When the players are awful they’re awful. Can’t expect everyone to be all roses and sunshine when those same adults call out the fans…

it takes the right coaches to make players grow. Maybe, just maybe the way CJH and staff break down film helps his players better understand expectations better causing them to develop as players.

‎The Erik Ainge Show: The EA Show - Hour #1 (8.16.21) on Apple Podcasts

Listen to Ainge today starting at 12 minute mark. He watched all of practice this weekend and he’s super excited about the team

- Milton is the best looking QB he’s ever seen here at TN
- teammates are holding each other accountable and picking each other up
- feels better about depth at all positions…”they all look the part”
- competition is great…players fighting each other then picking each other up
- this is going to be the easiest TN team to root for in his lifetime
- coaches are hard and intense but patient. They’re actually teaching
- he’s tempering his expectations for Milton but when he throws it’s not normal. Every single human out there watches him when he throws
- only concern for Milton is when he throws a 6 yard slant it might go off the WR hands and to the other team
- Milton threw a ball to Hyatt 65 yards in air right in bread basket…the DB had stopped (Willy didn’t like that) because it was so far

- said as he’s learned more he understands why those players transferred to OK…he said Pruitt personally told individuals they were Effing terrible. That’s just one example of the things Pruitt said
- he’s very impressed with how Heupel is building this team up but simultaneously putting more demands on them
- not at 8-4 yet but trending that direction, but regardless they’re doing it all the right way…team is going to be fun to root for

I am ALL about getting excited but that just does not ring true. Does anyone really think Pruitt told his starting OT (Morris) and RB (Grey) they were "f'ing terrible"? Why wouldn't they have transferred BEFORE he was fired and wouldn't they be excited about a new staff coming in with a personality that's the exact opposite of Pruitt? Hopefully the rest of what he said is closer to the truth.

Ainge is supposed to speak positive about the football program (he carried JG for several years). It is Fall Camp.....I am just going to wait and see. Heupel so far has done what is expected, changed culture, focused on teaching and developing comradery. His money will be earned by the product he puts on the field. I hope Milton is as advertised, but he did leave his previous school for a slew of reasons. I am more concerned about the Offensive Line and Linebackers. Almost football time in Tennessee,

Is this the same Ainge that defended JG till the bitter end?
He actually didn’t. By all accounts JG was a practice champion. A few games into the season Ainge was publicly saying that something was going on mentally with JG and Ainge was frustrated. Ainge has been given a hard time for his assessments, but he’s actually been pretty honest. He gets excited like we all do and tries to point out the positives, but he has been critical of plays and play calling/coaching over the years.

So I stayed out of the FF for a while....I was fully expecting 4-8 season with embarrassing defensive efforts and an offense that looks high powered, but doesn't have the talent. I enter the FF, read this thread and "we're loaded" / "we're deep" / "when Milton throws everyone watches" / trending towards 8-4

LOL. We can't do it to ourselves!

I'm not beaten down at all. I'm more excited than most, but Ainge took it a bit too far with his assessment in my opinion. I would love to be wrong.
Each is entitled to his/her own opinion. We just differ on this one.

Lol doesn’t have the talent ?? We have plenty of talent the only position where talent is a question is LB and I think they will continue to grow as a unit… talent has never ever been an issue in all my years of watching UT football only coaching and a losing culture…

Ainge liked JG after 3 years of watching him suck as a vol. When Chaney was hired I remember Ainge really talking JG up.
I'm not denying Ainge is a shill for the university and he's not in a place where he can speak 100% freely. He stuck with JG because Pruitt stuck with JG but his original take on JG was what I referenced. JG WAS offered by several top schools.

Fair enough

Ain’t that the truth. They’re all Neyland reincarnated until we play a game; then the excuses start and continue until the pink slip happens.
