‎The Erik Ainge Show: The EA Show - Hour #1 (8.16.21) on Apple Podcasts

Listen to Ainge today starting at 12 minute mark. He watched all of practice this weekend and he’s super excited about the team

- Milton is the best looking QB he’s ever seen here at TN
- teammates are holding each other accountable and picking each other up
- feels better about depth at all positions…”they all look the part”
- competition is great…players fighting each other then picking each other up
- this is going to be the easiest TN team to root for in his lifetime
- coaches are hard and intense but patient. They’re actually teaching
- he’s tempering his expectations for Milton but when he throws it’s not normal. Every single human out there watches him when he throws
- only concern for Milton is when he throws a 6 yard slant it might go off the WR hands and to the other team
- Milton threw a ball to Hyatt 65 yards in air right in bread basket…the DB had stopped (Willy didn’t like that) because it was so far

- said as he’s learned more he understands why those players transferred to OK…he said Pruitt personally told individuals they were Effing terrible. That’s just one example of the things Pruitt said
- he’s very impressed with how Heupel is building this team up but simultaneously putting more demands on them
- not at 8-4 yet but trending that direction, but regardless they’re doing it all the right way…team is going to be fun to root for

I saw that somebody pulled this from the FF and posted it in the RF. They are some weird dudes over there. You have to wade through eight pages of random stream-of-consciousness rambling about whatever pops in their head, like what some guy is barbecuing today or who likes what show on Netflix...and then all of a sudden they have a good football nugget, sometimes stuff we don't have. That's why I dig around over there. It's like that crater in Arkansas where you can pick around in the dirt and keep whatever gems you find.

The picture with the cast is reversed. He’s a righty, and it was his right thumb.

I just read the thread and it sounds like it is a reverse image which I don’t understand. It looks impossible for that to be his right hand but I guess it’s some sort of app doing it?

For me it means he probably wouldn’t make a good coach. Can’t evaluate talent. However I hope it means nothing and that Milton goes into the records books, as one of the best ever at Tenn
I take what he says with a grain of salt but he does know football. He’s not the only want that thought JG had a ton of talent. Urban Meyer wanted him bad

Seriously, how many camp QB’s flame out because they’re a fish out of water when it comes to college level defenses?

Plus, if Milton was so great, why didn’t he light it up at his previous school? I hope he kicks ass, but let’s see him play a game before crowning him the Heisman.
Do yourself a favor and go watch his video. He was Dr Jeckyll and Mr Hyde. When he's good... he's as good as any QB you've ever seen play. If Heupel and crew gets him to play consistently like he played in streaks... he may very well be a Heisman contender before its over.

Some people are so beaten down by the last 15 years of Tennessee football, hey are afraid to even think about us having a good football team. From what I have seen and heard, I think we will win 7 games this year, have a good recruiting class this Fall and a really good recruiting class next Fall. Don't be afraid to believe!
I'm not beaten down at all. I'm more excited than most, but Ainge took it a bit too far with his assessment in my opinion. I would love to be wrong.

Let’s temper expectations guys. I’m eager to see what this team does this season just like all of you. But don’t buy into the “the culture is changed” speech. I see a step in the right direction. A STEP! What does this team do when faced with adversity? How do they handle success. EA talked up JG aswell. Now from everything else I read JG looked like Peyton Manning in practice. That’s from other media outlets. You are supposed to play how you practice. We seen flashes of it over the years with JG but once the tuff got goin JG checked out. Hopefully Milton can truly lead his team to a competitive season.

Man if y'all dont quit with this stupid talk of tempering expectations!!! This is the beginning of football season!!!
We can still enjoy watching what turns out to be a loss if we battle hard doing it!!!

If I ever see another BBQ thread on volnation I may just off myself. I mean WTF.

I’m kind of scared of beginning to care again. I was devastated after 2016 TAM and USC. But I’d rather be there than being nervous before the Vandy game.

Can you explain what lofty expectations you are talking about?

True, and who knows. According to recent past this might be our last chance to be excited

We'll be talking ourselves up to 12-0 in another 2 weeks before reality hits. :)

The problem is ...

- only concern for Milton is when he throws a 6 yard slant it might go off the WR hands and to the other team

This is actually a much bigger deal than it's being made out to be. Milton has no touch on his throws and there are far more 6-yard passes than 60-yard passes. If you read opinions from Michigan fans, you'll see this theme come up repeatedly.

Hope all the hype about Milton ends up being true, I'm 100% wrong, and he's the greatest QB in Tennessee history, but my concern is that like JG, he's more of a "practice hero" than a gamer. And ultimately, Hooker and Bailey end up being better options at QB.

I will say this ... if Milton ends up being as good as advertised in the reports ... Heupel is absolutely "the guy". Turning Milton from a frustrating mistake-prone QB with raw potential to a top-tier QB in 1 season would certainly establish Huepel as one of the best QB gurus out there. I'm just not getting my hopes up till I see it in a game against real competition.
