Our top problem in the secondary is we have a baseball player coaching our db's. Best person to coach them is Andre Lott and he's our VFL guy.

He couldn't have said any better....

Came here to post this.

You know he's not the only alum/former player who's thinking it.

AMEN! Joseph has GOT to go! If Dooley keeps him past November, he will go down as being like Fulmer & Cutcliffe, too loyal to assistant to a fault to his own detriment. His lack of knowledge as to how to coach DB's is killing us & is the main cause we're giving up so many big plays in every game, not just against good teams.

Ainge is funny. Although he may have a point. Not sure. Maybe some in the know can comment. I noticed last night that when Teague turns his hips don't swivel, he has to turn completely and then...he's burned. Aren't DB's supposed to be on a swivel all the time?

I'm not so sure I'd be in favor of just handing it to Andre Lott because he played for Tennessee. If we were going to change, I'd rather try to get the best possible person, and I highly doubt that would be Lott.

Agreed. After the Chuck Smith debacle, I would be looking for more on a resume than "had a great career at UT".

As someone has suggested before, is there any problem with having CTJ remain as an administrative recruiting coordinator, rather than a field coach? Maybe he wouldn't fly with that, or with the pay-cut it would require.

Teague suffers from lack of speed and stiff hips.

They need to be careful. Since there are former players around often, the db's are hearing different things from them, than what the coach is teaching. That's not good. Not uncommon because everybody always knows what's best, but it could cause friction. I will say, I am 100% confident that teague isn't being taught to whiff on chucks off the los, get his shoulders turned and allow the wr to blow by him with a simple head fake.

I'm sure it has nothing to do with the fact that our CB's are way to slow and speedy guys can run right past them.

Not sure if I'm ready to put Teague's poor performances on TJ. He's having to resort to Freshmen or moving position players to cover wait for it.........depth issues. It is pretty easy for us to say put Coleman in or put Gordon etc. but what these guys do in practice matters a lot to the coaches. There should be enough evidence now to show the staff that Teague simply can't cover anybody.

I don't think that's what Ainge was saying. He said, at this point, the DB's are learning more from Lott than Joseph.

I agree, they really should support the coaches publicly. If there is an opening, I have no problem with Ainge vouching for Lott. But, currently, there isn't.

You got to like Ainge for telling what he feels is the truth. He told the truth on Simms, I don't think Simms will be sending him a Christmas card.

I wasn't referring to ainge. He, Fred white, fair, etc can say what they want. I was referring to Lott and other former db's that may be in the ear of our guys outside of practice.

My bad. I actually agree on that point as well. Lott isn't a coach; therefore, he needs to keep his mouth shut.

Agreed Xs 2 - yet people still want Peyton to be our HC someday

Even worse, several fans want him to be hired immediately after he retires from playing, which would be the dumbest hiring decision in college football history.

He meant best person over there currently to coach def backs is Andre Lott he didn't say Lott was best overall choice.

Ainge made the point if your "Teague and you know you're slower than everyone you guard than BACK UP"... Don't walk up only to let them blow by you.

Wilcox played DB at Oregon, I believe. It wouldn't surprise me if he takes an active interest in them now. I think more than anything it's lack of speed and depth atm. And by depth I mean experienced players. I know we have lots of young guys, but they are still learning schemes. We have no older, experienced players to rely on.
