Aidoo

Was about to type this.

Aidoo never liked competition or Barnes coaching style. Some kids just cant handle being coached hard, but yeah he didn't play much because of the foot.
I agree with you....you cld tell his last game he didn't like competition.....on positive note
Estrella wasn't intimidated by Edey.....Go Vols

I was optimistic that we got an upgrade in the position with losing Aidoo and adding Okpara. I know it is still early, but right now I'm not so sure.
Aidoo got absolutely dominated against bigger, stronger competition, but he had a skill set that also helped us win many games last year.
Perhaps I took for granted the stepping out and making shots, scoring in the paint, and making free throws.
Hopefully Okpara proves me wrong!
I agree. Yes, it’s early but we look to be slightly worse inside than last season. Okpara still recovering from a hip pointer so maybe that’s the issue. Milicic looks uncomfortable, maybe he’ll get it going. My hope is on Cade and JP making much bigger strides this year than I thought we would need from them.

Aidoo thrived against small teams and folded against big teams. He'll have the same struggles at Arkansas. That position is, in my opinion, the hardest on the court to not only play but to fill as a coach. It's like Earth. You have to find a player in the "goldilocks" zone. Tall, heavy, muscular and can get up and down the floor. Playing at that position is the hardest, most physical position on the floor. The only time you're not pushing/shoving or not getting pushed or shoved is when you're sprinting to the other side of the court.

We all have criticisms of Aidoo with stones hands just like we did with Fulky and probably everyone else that plays down low. When you're under that basket you're constantly getting pushed, pulled, ankles getting kicked, arms getting hit, or you got a knee up your butt. I don't envy those guys at all.

All that to say, I think Okpara will be fine. He's a tough kid and plays with a chip on his shoulder. Finding a diamond in the rough down low is hard even with the transfer portal. Until a Shaq comes to UT it will always be a battle down there.

Such a poetic description of post play!

I think AIdoo was playing out of position he is not a true post and would be better served playing next to one. He is more KG type of player, a true 4. While Okpara seems more like an AD type a post player that can do both. Not comparing skill levels or even playstyle just meaning their best role if that makes sense.

Its kind of like Zach Edey.. it was clear to a lot of people including himself he can shoot, by his free throw numbers. But, As he put it at Purdue that was not his role and he best way for them to win games. So people underrated what he could be at the NBA level as he was labeled as a plodder that can only play in the low post. He is still developing but he showed through the summer and preseason and through the season so far he is a lot more athletic and a better shooter by far than most people projected. Aidoo in my opinion is the opposite.. He's being forced to be a post-player (out of necessity) when that is not what he is built for or wants to be. At UT last year we didn't really have anyone that was a true post player including him. This year we have more options but still kinda iffy there. Arkansas is not in that situation. They have bigs they can play next to him. When he gets healthy I think he will be fine.

Bro made a business decision. End of day that's what this is he is not some kid from Knocville who grew up dreaming of playing here. that is the new world of college sports there are gonna be a lot more free agents because this is officially no longer amateur athletics. These are paid semi-pros. just like they can leave they can also be replaced. The replacing part was always true, they just have aoptions for themselves now.

I am old but, it seems like I heard his father was coached by Cal. Maybe he thinks Cal can teach him how to catch the post pass and shoot without putting it on the floor?

Aidoo improved immensely under Barnes as most players that stick it out do. He could play a nice role for Arkansas as Cal will have to play him due to NIL. Old boy may have screwed up but time will tell. I really liked Tobe and was very surprised when he bailed out.

If Cal can get anything out of him more than Barnes was able to, I’ll be shocked and impressed.
He was 2nd team ALL-SEC. He certainly didn’t have that dog in him everyone wanted, but to insinuate he wasn’t an integral part of last year is interesting. He and Mashack were best friends from all accounts, so I was a bit surprised at the transfer. I think his last 2 games where he was totally inept and Barnes pulled him made him mad enough to leave.

2nd team All-SEC who was 0-4 from the field and zero points in the biggest game of his career. I would think he left in shame rather than anger.

I didn't insinuate anything other than he is who he was at UT and if Cal gets more than that out of him, I'll be shocked and impressed. He was the best post we had - but not good enough to help the team get farther. Unfortunately, I'm concerned that the replacements for him and Awaka might be even less effective.

For you nimrods that doubt Awaka, he stayed on the floor long enough to have an 18 point,15 rebound game for AZ.

But go ahead and keep believing his departure isn’t a concern.

Who doubted Awaka? IIRC several have mentioned that it’s unfortunate that he left. Some have simply moved on.

Aidoo is who many think UT has upgraded with Felix instead. You know. The tall skinny one.

Really? Aidoo a natural #4?

Maybe… except for the lack of handles, a fluid shot, hands of stone, and the fact that he is a big cumbersome dude without athleticism to guard on the perimeter.

Other than that, sure I guess.
