Aguilar eligibility update

Vandy never had the standards many people believe. They just used that as an excuse for being bad. I lived in Nashville for 60 years and just moved to be near grandkids. I am very familiar with the standards of entrance into Vanderbilt for regular students and athletes. If Vandy wanted you in, you got in, that goes for regular students and athletes.
It is few and far between. They didn't let Ron Mercer in and he was a pretty good student in high school. Their standards are higher than anyone else in the SEC. I know people that went there as students and athletes. They were all strong academically. I am sure standards have been lowered for legacy students but they are pretty damn high for everyone else. It's the main reason they haven't been as competitive in football and basketball.

Time to move on from Joey Aguillar, tough competitor, bad fundamentals, prone to throw off his back foot, Heupel can't develop a young quarterback, back to the portal
Joey had some problems but Heupel got more out of him than any other QB coach. However, ,he did cost us a couple of games with interceptions and fumbles. He probably got more out of him than he could have gotten from Merk. I am a little bit concerned he did not give GMac in the Spring game, but I guess he was trying to get Joey up to speed.

I saw an article comparing Nico’s stats here vs his at UCLA. Nico was much better passing here according to the article. I’m not wishing he & his clan had stayed or come back but I do think Heupel is getting a bum rap on the “can’t develop a QB” from our board of football geniuses. Hes had 1 shot so far with Nico. We never saw year 2 but I’d think Nico would’ve been better with the receivers, not as good as Joey thou.

He didn't cost us games! The fumble against Oklahoma was David Sanders fault. Without Joey Aguilar we don't win 6 games. Merk can't play and Gmac wasn't ready. Terrible defense is why we lost games

I think our defense was the true reason for most of our losses.

Given the short timeframe Joey has been here, he has balled out and exceeded expectations.

Assuming he was granted another season, he would have an extra off-season to work with Heupel and be potentially heisman shortlist good.

No disrespect I’d just as soon as go ahead and cut ties and we both be on our merry way instead of dragging it out forever.

If Joey wants a shot at the NFL now is the time IMO. I support him if he wants to come back. It could make for interesting spring and fall. If someone doesn't want to compete they have have options.

How many new QB's have we had since JH has been here??

I believe the answer is 4 in 5 years. I guess some just want a new QB every year.

Don't know what folks are going to do if we ever have the benefit of a 3-year starter at QB. I do know we will have to live with the threads about the backup QB being better.

JA should go on with his life. He was a blessing to the team, we couldn't ask for a better person to step in with what happened with Nico... but I didn't think Pavia should have gotten the extra year and neither should JA.. The NCAA needs to be erased and someone with a sack needs to run the show and not have to have the Government dictate what happens.

I’m looking forward to next year when Diego returns for his seventh season of college football, and Vanderbilt plays 15 games to make sure they have enough wins to qualify for the playoff.

Some fans want a new coach every year too

Aguilar didn't play in the Spring Game.

I’d love to have Joey back for 1 more. Better than any current option we have and gives faizon a year to learn and get comfortable.

They are going to have to make a decision on JUCO - either it counts or not and if it counts does it count even if the player attends a JUCO that does not field a football team? And do players that play the last year of high school and also take JUCO courses lose a year?

And yes, Joey would be a good bridge to Faizon assuming he is the real deal.

We lose eight games with Merk.

I think all the JUCO stuff should be if the player was actually was part of the the JUCO team
If Joey is able to come back TN will pick sign him. If he's not then UT will go to the portal for a player with playing experience.
With next year schedule no way is TN going into the season with a R/S that may have played all of 6mins of total actual game time and a True Freshman.
People may as well accept that now instead of the lets start GMac and Faizon as backup talk, heard it least season when Nico left, let's roll with Merk and GMac and team Merk post. Yeah again not happening unless coach trying to get fired

Tend to agree - we will either have Joey or some other QB from the portal. I don't see CJH depending upon Merk, GMac or a true freshman if he values his job.

That said, he may want to play those three more - but to put the season on one of them being great - not wise.

The problem with this whole situation is we may not know if Joey will be eligible until after the portal closes

Much prefer GMac from what I have seen so far.

I just hope the other two get time in the bowl game - but folks will go crazy if we end up 7-5 instead of 9-4 - just saying.
