Aguilar eligibility update

Tend to agree - we will either have Joey or some other QB from the portal. I don't see CJH depending upon Merk, GMac or a true freshman if he values his job.

That said, he may want to play those three more - but to put the season on one of them being great - not wise.
I think Merk is gone either way so there is only GMac and Brandon, maybe a walkon

No disrespect I’d just as soon as go ahead and cut ties and we both be on our merry way instead of dragging it out forever.
Yep. No way Heupel can wait. He's got to secure a solid QB from the portal now. Appreciate all Aguilar did and respect the season he's had, but surely we can do better in the portal this time around?

The problem with this whole situation is we may not know if Joey will be eligible until after the portal closes
It would be senseless of the court to decide the case AFTER the portal closes. It would 1) limit their choices &2) severely cut their income potential. I’m sure the attorneys have communicated this to the court.

That's how Pavia got this year. He got an injunction BEFORE the case was settled because of time and then the NCAA just rolled over so the case just sat there.

Now, it's being re-filed or revisited or whatever legally they call it with more players joining, including Joey A.

Whether they'll do another injunction for all the players in the suit or settle it or the NCAA will just throw up their hands and change the JUCO rules remains to be seen.

Is there even a QB in the portal right now that could make a difference?

The portal opens in early January. Besides, players can be <don't call it tampering> encouraged to enter if they feel <look deep into your heart and your agents emails> there might be an opportunity elsewhere.

That’s what I’ve been saying. Apparently this forum doesn’t agree with that. Those were the QBs he picked too.
Nico is really the only QB Heupel “picked”. Milton was about all that was left after spring practice ‘21. People saying Heupel chose him aren’t being fair. He chose him from what was available. Nico, first not panning out & second, leaving at the worst possible time hit him a lick. GMaC was a 5 star before he broke his finger the summer before his sr year. Even with that, most thought it would take a couple yrs to get him there physically.

Never said he did, GMac didn’t get much play
“I am a little bit concerned he did not give GMac in the Spring game, but I guess he was trying to get Joey up to speed.”

So you’re saying that GMac didn’t get as much PT (assuming that’s what you meant by “give GMac”) in the spring game because he was trying to get Joey up to speed, even though Joey wasn’t there?

He picked Milton over Hooker.

I saw an article comparing Nico’s stats here vs his at UCLA. Nico was much better passing here according to the article. I’m not wishing he & his clan had stayed or come back but I do think Heupel is getting a bum rap on the “can’t develop a QB” from our board of football geniuses. Hes had 1 shot so far with Nico. We never saw year 2 but I’d think Nico would’ve been better with the receivers, not as good as Joey thou.

It isn’t dumb or biased to say Nico would have played better this year at Tennessee in his 3rd season in and under Heupel’s system. There was an argument that continuity would have resulted in Heupel’s tailoring his offense to what he has at QB. Heupel proved he could do that with Aguilar as he had a less mobile QB in Aguilar compared to Nico.

It’s also not dumb or biased to say Nico went to a much lesser caliber staff that had no idea what they were doing and it showed.

I still believe that Tennessee and Nico both lost in that relationship going south. And yes, that relationship went south thanks to Nico and his family. This isn’t some pro Nico post.

It would be asinine to suggest that Nico wouldn’t have developed into a better QB than last year had he stayed and played his 3rd season here. It’s also evident Heupel would have been more trusting to a second year starter in his offense compared to how he had a somewhat tight leash with Aguilar well into the season.

We finished 8-4 with no good wins. QB didn’t turn out to be quite the story as we all thought it would going into the Oklahoma game when we still had something to play for.
