Aguilar debate

What do you think of the Aguilar situation?

  • I WANT HIM BACK HOWEVER WE CAN

  • I want him back, but leaves a bad taste in my mouth

  • I don't want him back because I think Gmac is the better option anyway

  • NO IT'S ABOUT THE PRINCIPLE

  • Don't care let's ride with whoever it ends up being

  • College sports is cooked

with the win we probably win out, rolling into the playoffs
No way with the defense we had. We've got a better shot to make the playoffs this year even with a tougher schedule. The offense should be a little better with JA back and defense should be much better, giving the offense more opportunities to score.

Even if JA gets the starting job, I could see Heupel playing GMac a lot to get him ready for next season and giving him incentive to stay in the program. There is no downside to not playing JA like he did last season, playing almost every meaningful snap b/c JA has no leverage. If he doesn't play GMac much, he risks losing him. Winning this year does help the program, keeping our recruiting momentum going, and if starting JA for most of the season gives us the most competitive team, then he should start every game. "Just win, baby".
Except 2 QB teams rarely do well. As they say, "if you have 2 QBs, you don't have one."

Route timing from QB to WR, snap count differences, etc are good reasons to have a clear starter who gets almost all of the snaps.

Joey is being undervalued by some fans. What he did coming in so late and generating the stats he did was amazing. This also helped Heupel’s quarterback credentials significantly. With a stronger offensive line and experience in the offense- Joey could outplay Arch and the big money LSU quarterback and be all-SEC. the opportunity is there.

We also have to consider that his performance overall was pretty good when he literally had what 2 months to learn the offense and had to deal with that tumor in his arm. That’s pretty impressive if you ask me. Is he perfect? Nope, but there’s no way he doesn’t improve this season.
While I agree with he would certainly improve, we’re really reaching with this arm tumor bit. I don’t know that we can attribute that to any turnovers or decisions.

1. He threw a lot more passes. So obviously you would expect more Ints from someone that throws the ball more. That is just math.

2. At least 4 of those Int's were because the intended WR/TE (mostly MK) either failed to catch the ball on a very catchable pass or the WR fell down on the route.

3. At least 3 of the losses were not remotely his fault. The defense was one of the worst units in the country the entire season and we had a kicker that folded under pressure. If we had just an average defense and kicker that was reliable, we beat UGA and OU without a doubt. And Bama and Vandy would certainly have been winnable games.

You could put 2022 Hooker on this team last year and we aren't beating Vandy. Our defense had no answer for Pavia the entire game.
Comparing hooker and JA is laughable.

Tough call. JA is a sentimental favorite for stepping in post Nico, GMAC is a sentimental favorite because he’s a TN guy who wants to be here and play for his hometown team. Faison is a favorite because he is supposed to be a generational talent. To bad we will lose either GMAC or Faison at some point.

He has less than 90 to learn the system then played a large portion of the season with a tumor in his arm. Tumor removed and healed, offense learned. How much better can he be
We’ll see but that pick six against Bama was about decision making not a tumor in his arm. I like the dude. Just would make him truly earn the job against a very talented sophomore and freshman.

CJH hasn't had a two year starter since he got here. I'd love to see a talented QB play a couple of years running that offense, so I hope he gets one more year. Having said that, I think if he comes back he should have to earn the job. I have enough confidence in CJH to think that is exactly what will happen if Joey does get that extra year.

Hooker started almost all of 2021 and 2022.

So if a kid joins the Marines out of high school, does 4 years and then comes back to school, he shouldn't be able to play college ball if he wishes?

If a Mormon kid does a mission, then college, he shouldn't be able to play?

If a kid's family needed him for a couple of years before he could start school, he shouldn't be able to play?
You sight extreme situations. Sure these type situations should be examined, but they don't need lawyers, etc., just a board to answer the day or next of the request.

We know what he is capable of and he was playing through pain in a new system. Who cares about what may be with these younger guys. They'll chase the first raise they can find and leave even if they prove to be good. Look at what Carson Beck did.

They had that with the NCAA. The NCAA violated federal antitrust laws. It's like a kid that eats all his Halloween candy arvo ce and gets sick from it. You don't give him another candy brand to help him get better. You take away all access to candy and give him a spanking. That's what the courts are doing to the NCAA.

Another thing with courts. Once the floodgates are opened, everyone that benefits wants a boat ride.
