What do you think of the Aguilar situation?

They're afraid that the "Heupel only wins with experienced transfer quarterbacks" phenomenon is real. They've also - quietly - decided for themselves that Macintyre is a bust and they're okay with losing Macintyre to the portal this year, and then recruiting someone else to start ahead of Brandon next year (because again, need experienced transfer QBs).

We had a defense the last year Nico was here and Sampson. Sampson took a lot of the burden off Nico having to throw the ball and our D was stopping teams and creating turn overs.

Last season other teams pretty much figure out TN defense can't get off the field so they knew they could eat tons of clock and go on to score, keep TN offense out of rhythm and play their safeties deep, knowing TN had to take the short yard stuff but because time running out eventually TN would be forced to take chances and throw those deep balls or press things that they shouldn't.

I'll admit, players are paid now so I don't care if they stay or go honestly. Players have no probably portal hopping. I just care about winning 1 year at a time.
How many teams were in the CFP this past season with experienced QBs vs non experienced.

Joey played very well for a guy that walked in late with little time to prepare. That sorry defense and a couple of inopportune missed kicks led us to a 4 loss regular season.

For me, I'm of the opinion that it's time for him to move on. I love him as a guy, and he very well may give us the best chance to win (although debatable). BUT it sets a bad precedent. And I know the rules are already being bent and everything, but isn't this what we made fun of Pavia for last season? It's college sports. We don't need 25 year olds playing. The future of the program would be better off anyway with GMac. I'm not willing to put the future of the program on hold because Joey wants one last ride. That's just me. I understand the other side as well. Will be happy either way.

Coaching wise, I would make Gmac the starter, unless he flails. Even if JA is there. Gotta go with the one CJH thinks gives us the best chance to win with this brutal schedule though. If JA is the starter, we may never see Gmac perform here at Tennessee.

We aren't losing GMac to the portal this year. It is closed.

It's not an issue except for the "backup QB is always better folks".

The QB that gives us the best chance to win will start. If JA does get another year, that is more than likely him. You don't sit a QB that has his stats / experience on the bench.

Folks would literally call for CJH's job if he started GMAC with a healthy JA on the bench and the losses started piling up.

Perfect situation.

With a decent D in 2025, Vols beat UGA and Oklahoma.

JA is legit. Had top QBR in SEC and most yards passing in regular season.

If I'm GMac and FB, I'd love to see JA back.

The 2026 team could go to 12 wins.

That doesn't mean anything now. All he has to do is take it to court, right? The transfer portal is a mechanism that restricts his ability to conduct trade and artificially prevents him from providing his services to other interested parties. It harms his ability to be compensated. Seems as easy as any of the other dozens of lawsuits thrown at the NCAA. Especially since he can say "I made a decision based on circumstances when the portal was open, and Tennessee was able to change its roster situation outside the portal window. I should be able to do the same." So take it to the court, which loves ripping up the NCAA, and let them rip it up a little further.

If he believes in himself, I have to think he'll look at the situation and say "I'm hurting my ability to earn money by sitting on this bench and not showing what I can do."

Like Mensah and the guy from WA who unportaled, G-Mac has probably signed a revenue sharing deal with UT that's legally binding and would mean someone would need to "buy out" his contract like Mensah apparently got Miami to do. These new school based revenue sharing deals are apparently no joke legally.

That's probably a non starter for a guy who is a non starter at this point. G-Mac isn't worth paying off UT THEN giving him a new NIL deal.
