It is clear to me that our coaching is just fine. Depth is our flat out only problem.

For those of you saying "a half time is plenty time of rest" let me ask you if you've ever played organized football at the high school or collegiate level? I played for a fairly good high school team where we had to each play both sides of the ball every week. I think that is fair to say it's equal to a half of college ball, at least. I can say, half time is not enough to properly "get your wind" for another go. We won games because we had depth at multiple key positions, on the line, and in the running back/wide receiver position. College ball is no different.

If you don't think Dooley single handedly kept us in the game in the first half with his fake punt and other choice calls, then you don't understand the game of football, that simple. Please, crawl back in your hole and wait for next week to *****/praise our coaches and players depending on the outcome of a game. I however, will be confident in knowing that with a competent QB we hang in this game till the end (and that's not even counting Hunter).

But, if Dooley does not play worley the rest of the year now, he is a fool in that regard.

It's not a depth issue, it's a talent issue. I can see if being depth if we were getting wore down in the 4th qtr, but the 2 opening drives of the third qtr is what did us in. Our stars went down against UF and UGA and we have nothing left - DaRick can't throw it to himself. I do give Dools alot of credit for coaching in this game. We have no answer right now at QB, and only 2 reliable targets - D Rogers and Rivera. Still, about what I expected and better days ahead - it'll take some time though

For one thing, televised halftimes are longer than normal halftimes. Regardless, they got more rest in that halftime then they did at any period in the 2nd quarter.

Depth may be an issue later in the 3rd, and in the 4th, but not at the start of the 2nd half when they had more of a chance to rest than they did in the 1st or 2nd quarter where they did fine. Call it talent or adjustments, but don't call it depth at that point in the game.

So what are they doing then in these 45 minutes...or 30...or 15...or 20...that is making them more tired than actually playing football in the 1st and 2nd quarter?

What are they having a wrestling match at halftime? A workout? An orgy?

I wonder, legitimately, how many of you all played competitive football. I don't mean that negatively, but it's like you think 20 minutes of rest is a magical heal and cure all for a team. I mean, seriously, if you think halftime means it's like starting the game over fully healed then you're crazy.

Its not a magic cure all, but its more rest than you're getting in the 1st and 2nd quarter where you're playing. Unless your offense is on some awesome 15 minute drive.

You're half right. Depth and talent are the two issues we face as a program. We simply don't have the athletes top tier teams have right now. This process is going to take a little longer than most Vol fans realize (or want to accept).

We're better than we were last year, but we're still not very good.
