After watching Newton and Simms....

Who would you rather have, based on QB skills alone?

Dang guys! We've only played him one game and now we are comparing him to someone else?? We need to believe in our QB as we do the rest of the team. Imagine that you are a QB and playing in junior college then step up to the major leagues and suddenly in front of 100,000+ fans.

If being the best athlete and having the strongest arm was what really mattered, Mike Vick would be the best QB on earth.

I also think Matts arm is plenty strong enough. It's his accuracy that bothers me. That could get better with time however as he and the receivers get more used to each other. Timing has a lot to do with that. For instance on Brays int, if he throws that ball a half second later it's a TD.

If there were some way to make money by predicting ahead of time what threads are going to be made on VN, I could quit my job.

Newton looked pretty bad on that interception he threw last night. Still I'm with ya'll on the Simms bandwagon, I'll be there until the end. He is our guy and we should all be behind him...

I don't know if any of y'all saw it but I posted a story on here a while back about meeting Newton outside of class (I go to school at Auburn).

I was wearing a Vols shirt and he walked up wearing an Auburn shirt. He patted me on the shoulder (his hands are the size tennis rackets) and said "Nice shirt, you wanna trade?" to which I replied "We could probably use you up there" to which he answered "Your old boy (Kiffin I assume) should have come with that offer"

I know this is completely irrelevant now, it was just interesting.

Not ready to pick yet. Saw some great passes from both QBs and some flat out terrible ones. I do like Newton's athleticism, but what good are the tools if you can't use them well and do so consistently?

To back up my point, Newton started the night with 38 rushing yards, 7-8 passing, 83 yards and 2 TDs in the first 18 minutes. For the remaining 32 minutes he had 31 rushing yards, 4-11 passing, 53 yards and 0 TDs. The only thing that is semi consistent thus far is his ability to use his legs. Eventually defenses will key into that and put a stop to him.

Its hard to make a similar comparison for Simms since we have yet to play a respectable defense.

I look for a QB who is a leader, is consistent, handles pressure well, and is able to manage the offense and make sure his guys are lined up properly and ready to execute the play.

It may turn out that Newton does that better than Simms, but I'm going to reserve judgment until tomorrow night to decide who I like best right now.

if we took newton would he have to sit out a year?

Is this a straight swap, like a player trade?

Does arthur brown sue auburn if we don't get newton?

I'll take the guy who wants to be here any day....plus I don't want anything stinking of gator filth representing UT....that being said, I think Newton is the better overall QB

This is a serious thread? I've seen, read, and heard about Simms for 5 months.

I've seen Cam Newton for 1 quarter, and I would trade Simms and every Sr. we have for Newton.
